Not sure what kind of society we would have if we dismissed all academics, of all people, on the basis of each and every opinion, belief system, whim or manifesto of the people they choose to study.

My experience of academia is that it's fairly common for professors to shine a light on people with a complex range of views, or to become interested in specific parts of someone's work.

I suppose it is easy to pick this out when someone runs for office but it feels a bit iffy to me.
