think LG is overplaying farage’s position a little here

Too much time on ILX

Non, je ned raggette rien (onimo), Thursday, 18 April 2019 15:26 (seven years ago)

I’m in a bad mood because my boss gave me a total roasting (for nothing I might add. I was calm and posting like a usually do) but this has cheered me up

This is an absolutely massive wake up call. If Farage wins the Euro elections & Labour doesn’t come top, it’s our equivalent of the Notre Dame fire - except it will take longer than 5 years to rebuild the tower. Maybe never https://t.co/nqfmxwEK7e

1000% more respect for Alastair Campbell if he ever sent Mandelson a note during a meeting urging Mandelson to shove the note up Adonis’s hairy inbox

This is a good article and v. revealing of the true source of why Britian is a shitty place to live right now, just wish people could realise this and not blame EU or whoever.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 19 April 2019 12:42 (seven years ago)

Ground Control by Anna Minton is a really good book on this topic, I hope she has something else in the pipeline now this information is becoming available.

Malik said he knew Javid’s late father because he used his butcher’s shops. “He was a very good uncle of ours but Sajid has never been involved in the community at all. I find what he says quite offensive.”

Afzal Shah, a Labour councillor, said Stapleton Road was one of Bristol’s most vibrant places. “We talk about 91 languages being spoken in Bristol. You can hear most of them here. There is great energy and great potential.”

Shah went to the same school as Javid and also knows members of his family. “When I went [shortly after the home secretary] there were no drug dealers hanging around the school gates.”

Javid's "moving" origin story isn't standing up to much scrutiny from ppl that still live in his old area. quelle surprise.

i think that might be the last "A Bronx Tale" type sTorytelling from leadership candidates or is Jeremy Hunt going to start talking about his dark days of tippex sniffing and how a suburban hedge-hopping gang nearly led him onto the wrong path.

All over r4 and WS today. Can't speak for the television dept.

calzino, Friday, 19 April 2019 16:29 (seven years ago)

It's the first story on the TV, esp. now the PM has made a statement.

Ned Trifle X, Friday, 19 April 2019 16:31 (seven years ago)

Yes, it's the main story.

gyac pls help

fremme nette his simplicitte (darraghmac), Friday, 19 April 2019 16:41 (seven years ago)

So not posting about something equals not giving a fuck is it?

calzino, Friday, 19 April 2019 16:45 (seven years ago)

Maybe we should go over and sort it out? Who's with me boys?

Ned Trifle X, Friday, 19 April 2019 16:50 (seven years ago)

lads :/

fremme nette his simplicitte (darraghmac), Friday, 19 April 2019 16:52 (seven years ago)

sorry deems I was sleeping!

I have to say though, it does sting a bit that nobody felt it worth mentioning, when we are pretty thorough in our coverage usually. That’s why I tend to bump the Irish thread now, cos it’s not like anyone who posts here besides me & deems and AF really gives a damn. Not posting here to start a fight, but just to say deems does have a point, nobody has to like it, but I am agreeing with what he says and just adding a bit (lol) more to how it feels.

gyac, Friday, 19 April 2019 17:14 (seven years ago)

why not just post about something rather than getting arsey about other people not posting about it?

calzino, Friday, 19 April 2019 17:37 (seven years ago)

this is still ilxor dot com iirc

Boris Bronfentrinker of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan (bizarro gazzara), Friday, 19 April 2019 17:39 (seven years ago)

xp do you mean me or deems? Cos I think I explained that already (and also previously when we were posting about Karen Bradley)

gyac, Friday, 19 April 2019 17:42 (seven years ago)

well, both of you. Even if you don't get some feedback it doesn't mean nobody is reading it or it is invalidated as a post.

calzino, Friday, 19 April 2019 17:45 (seven years ago)

I just explained that though? As I said, it’s not a great feeling when other people itt apparently feel that it’s not even worth mentioning, but I’ve said enough about this before & I’m resigned to it.

gyac, Friday, 19 April 2019 17:47 (seven years ago)

Resigned to what exactly?

Do you like 70s hard rock with a guitar hero? (Tom D.), Friday, 19 April 2019 17:56 (seven years ago)

same.

id say tho that yes, what you/ye focus on itt is telling, tbh

not as a chide, or probably a bit as a chide but not half as much as yknow it probably ought to be, but as a note that the complete focus on party personality wankery while the north falls apart is bad. its bad. it was bad when the secretary for northern ireland said what she said a few weeks ago. we took it to the irish thread eventually but I was surprised both by how little it mattered itt and how much that bothered us, speaking for gyac also at least.

i know a lot of things are falling apart, i know you/ye are all affected in grinding ways every day. but these events are huge events, theyre not political jostling or indicators these are the most important news stories in the uk and ireland and our shared history is reverting to war after a generation of peace and its not me saying "ye dont care" but yeah it is me saying "ye dont seem to notice or care, and thats troubling"

god bless us all, we're all good ppl in mainly the same direction pointed and fuck knows im no fan of callout culture, but yeah its more than a little noteworthy imo how this is happening "somewhere else"

No problems but, guess what, Scottish politics is never, and I mean never, covered in any detail in these threads - beyond why don't they like Corbyn up there - maybe someone should start a song and dance about that too?

Do you like 70s hard rock with a guitar hero? (Tom D.), Friday, 19 April 2019 18:04 (seven years ago)

I don’t know anything about Scottish politics! And I have at least asked about it when it comes up because I would like to know more.

gyac, Friday, 19 April 2019 18:07 (seven years ago)

Obviously it isn't comparable to the possible shitshow that could develop in NI but you have got a constituent part of the UK which voted 62-38 Remain, is dominated by a separatist party and where 45% of the electorate voted to leave the UK not that long ago.

Do you like 70s hard rock with a guitar hero? (Tom D.), Friday, 19 April 2019 18:11 (seven years ago)

I want every PIP/Universal Credit related suicide to be posted about on this thread, or I'm going to get really arsey and assume you are all a bunch of fucking pro-austerity melts *sheeit I forgot - some of you are and there is at least one LibDem voter lurking about!*

calzino, Friday, 19 April 2019 18:13 (seven years ago)

peace!

calzino, Friday, 19 April 2019 18:21 (seven years ago)

Honest answer I thought this was a thread about Brexit! Not excusing not posting about it and the NI threads should be more active but even then I doubt Id post anything because I don't feel qualified to talk about it ("that's never stopped yer before has it Ned?") but I am genuinely interested in what NI posters have to say for that very reason. It's a disgrace how disconnected the English are about NI but hey ho it's ever been thus. Just ask Kevin Rowlands.

Ned Trifle X, Friday, 19 April 2019 18:23 (seven years ago)

I mean, didn't we used to have more general UK pol threads? Fucking Brexit.

Ned Trifle X, Friday, 19 April 2019 18:24 (seven years ago)

this is the UK politics soup kitchen and the brexit soup is much richer and higher in protein from the bottom of the urn, but no more satisfying than the gruel at the top!

calzino, Friday, 19 April 2019 18:29 (seven years ago)

be hugely interested in what english/british posters thought or knew about the north tbh!

i dont feel in any way qualified myself def theres far more knowledgeable and invested posters active

fremme nette his simplicitte (darraghmac), Friday, 19 April 2019 18:37 (seven years ago)

I just assumed the lack of posting was holiday weekend effect

certainly the murder of lyra mckee has been all over my twitter feed, is incredibly sad, and (from what I can gather of my admittedly not amazing understanding of current irish politics) seems to be another marker of an increasingly febrile situation in NI, which hasn’t been helped by the collapse of power sharing these past 18-24 (? longer?) months and the ongoing wrangling of brexit

... and the crowd said DESELECT THEM (||||||||), Friday, 19 April 2019 18:39 (seven years ago)

we should also post about scottish politics more too. this week has been marked by SNP infighting around recognition of trans rights & kezia dugdale’s success against wings

still utterly shameful that karen bradley didn’t resign

IIRC the SNP’s biggest donor is Brian Souter who is not known for his C21 viewpoints on sexuality and gender.

Was out catching sun all day so not much chance to mark Lyra McKee’s murder on any form of social media, but I’d like her remembered as the writer of this:

suzy, Friday, 19 April 2019 19:07 (seven years ago)

tbf to nicola sturgeon she has been unequivocal in her support for trans rights, which is very heartening. it’s other members of her cabinet causing her difficulty

An online coversation has been leaked which appears to show some SNP MSPs angry about @NicolaSturgeon’s backing of trans rights, saying she’s “out of step” with group feelings. One is convener of Equalities committee, one is a Scot Gov Minister. 👀 https://t.co/QJj28RXZJS
