The TR base will 100% approve of that behaviour

Which one's Yaxley-Lennon-McCartney and which one's Tommy Atkinson though?

Do you like 70s hard rock with a guitar hero? (Tom D.), Thursday, 11 April 2019 11:02 (seven years ago)

it will go down fine with the TR base, but it begs the question can just any old pissed up violent degenerate get a platform on the bbc these days. Just start asking some random pissed up numpt who got arrested for headbutting a statue what he thinks about the big picture of EU immigration!

calzino, Thursday, 11 April 2019 11:10 (seven years ago)

that is putting aside his white supremacy hate speak for the purpose of that post!

calzino, Thursday, 11 April 2019 11:13 (seven years ago)

They used to have Charles Kennedy on tbf

Boles to the Wolds (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 11 April 2019 11:19 (seven years ago)

arli$$ and bible black (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 11 April 2019 11:22 (seven years ago)

I often think of his pissed up appearances on QT when I'm needing some succor and inspiration to help me continue dogging on through this marvelous journey of life.

calzino, Thursday, 11 April 2019 11:32 (seven years ago)

i knew about his drinking but dogging too? christ

kolarov spring (NickB), Thursday, 11 April 2019 11:36 (seven years ago)

Well, shit - I go to a verdant bit of north London for a few hours’ forest bath’/fuss of other people’s dogs and all hell breaks loose! Excellent work, chaotic world!

Do we reckon that, if Marc Francois had lost the run of himself on Parliament and called for a VONC today, whether Labour would feel obliged to vote for it, or obliged to vote against?

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 11 April 2019 22:25 (seven years ago)

I mean, Kate Hoey would vote against, but y'know.

stet, Thursday, 11 April 2019 23:42 (seven years ago)

disappointing of DA to minimise the assange rape charges on today this morning

... and the crowd said DESELECT THEM (||||||||), Friday, 12 April 2019 07:18 (seven years ago)

it doesn't really contrast well with Alan Johnson washing his hands of Gary McKinnon back in the day. I know there is the whistleblower/journalism angle, but jc I wouldn't want to expend too much energy defending this pos.

calzino, Friday, 12 April 2019 07:36 (seven years ago)

The line on Twitter has been fairly consistent - that Assange shouldn't be extradited to the US but should go through the standard processes in relation to any potential charges in Sweden.

ShariVari, Friday, 12 April 2019 07:39 (seven years ago)

Corbyn's tweet about it was highly misjudged as well, you don't need to want him to be extradited to the US to at least acknowledge the rape charge.

Matt DC, Friday, 12 April 2019 07:41 (seven years ago)

It appears that the Swedish arrest warrant was rescinded two years ago so I'm not sure what the standard process would be in this scenario.

Matt DC, Friday, 12 April 2019 07:42 (seven years ago)

resist extradition to the US, prosecute him for bail skipping, & hold him until the swedish resubmit a warrant for his arrest/extradition

... and the crowd said DESELECT THEM (||||||||), Friday, 12 April 2019 07:43 (seven years ago)

I don't think there's any real prospect of him not being extradited to the US, tbh. You can disagree with it politically but there is no practical way to stop the process. The US reserves the right to charge non-US residents for acts that took place outside of the US and are not crimes in the countries where they took place. The extradition treaty means the US doesn't really even need to provide substantial evidence.

ShariVari, Friday, 12 April 2019 07:51 (seven years ago)

think we've worked out by now that a lot of the old school left really doesn't get intersectionality

Boles to the Wolds (Noodle Vague), Friday, 12 April 2019 07:53 (seven years ago)

But Julian Assange isn’t being extradited or charged for rape - he’s being charged for helping Chelsea Manning distribute video of US war crimes. You can say about him needing to face charges for rape or any of his other alleged crimes but this is like one of the only good things he’s ever been responsible for?

And I hate to point out the fucking obvious, but nobody cares about rape and most rapists are never charged. That goes double if you’re famous.

If Sweden has dropped the charges that’s disappointing but otoh if I was one of the accusers I probably would have too.

gyac, Friday, 12 April 2019 08:11 (seven years ago)

It's procedural from the Swedish side. They can bring the charge back any time they like but there is a time limit on open investigations.

ShariVari, Friday, 12 April 2019 08:15 (seven years ago)

xp oh never mind, it’s only ~women~

suzy, Friday, 12 April 2019 08:23 (seven years ago)

This is a bad take when you don’t know anything about the person you’re speaking to.

gyac, Friday, 12 April 2019 08:26 (seven years ago)

Mensch was on that celebrity SAS thing on ch4 but retired hurt at the end of the first week after falling awkwardly out of an helicopter and being pummeled by two other contestants.

this was hilarious btw, a+ would watch again

arli$$ and bible black (bizarro gazzara), Friday, 12 April 2019 08:30 (seven years ago)

Still interested in how I think women aren’t important, suzy!

gyac, Friday, 12 April 2019 08:43 (seven years ago)

You can say about him needing to face charges for rape

Well yeah I can, but so can Jeremy Corbyn. And when he doesn't, we get people like this charmer turning up in his comments:

Right. But those charges were dropped and there are rumors it was a CIA operation. He was never charged, which means, not guilty

— Joe 'UnfunMid' Grech (@JoeBGrech) April 11, 2019

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 12 April 2019 08:47 (seven years ago)

Didn’t ask you, AF, and Corbyn has tons of cunts in his comments. Are you expecting him to sit on twitter and refute them individually? JA should have been charged for rape, but he hasn’t and he shouldn’t have been charged for what he was charged for. I don’t know why this is controversial or why not saying the obvious should make it any less true.

gyac, Friday, 12 April 2019 08:56 (seven years ago)

When this guy is whiling away his days in SuperMax, whats the charge it will be for? Does it matter? And will we cheer as loudly when the next person is someone we like? I don't see whats progressive about this.

When we throw away any protections for Assange, Shamima Begum, or anyone else, they aren't the only people we throw them away for

anvil, Friday, 12 April 2019 09:01 (seven years ago)

arli$$ and bible black (bizarro gazzara), Friday, 12 April 2019 09:02 (seven years ago)

he shouldn’t have been charged for what he was charged for

am I missing something, I was under the impression Assange was arrested for skipping bail on the Swedish rape charges, why shouldn't he be charged for that?

Colonel Poo, Friday, 12 April 2019 09:08 (seven years ago)

thats not what he's going to do the time for

anvil, Friday, 12 April 2019 09:12 (seven years ago)

Which, as you said, is like the only good thing Wikileaks ever did.

Do you like 70s hard rock with a guitar hero? (Tom D.), Friday, 12 April 2019 09:15 (seven years ago)

Also I didn’t listen to Today, but is this true?

Shadow home secretary Diane Abbott told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that "this is all about Wikileaks and all of that embarrassing information about the activities of the American military and security services that was made public".

But she said Assange should also face the criminal justice system if the Swedish government charged him.

gyac, Friday, 12 April 2019 09:15 (seven years ago)

xp I think the diplomatic cables have value as well! But those videos were legit public service.

gyac, Friday, 12 April 2019 09:15 (seven years ago)

(xps) I knew they had done something else worthwhile, but couldn't remember what.

Do you like 70s hard rock with a guitar hero? (Tom D.), Friday, 12 April 2019 09:18 (seven years ago)

gyac, (which my phone autocorrects to ‘guacamole’ btw) you can be female and still make statements that another woman can find a bit minimising of the importance of seeing through rape charges at trial.

Interestingly, if extradited to Sweden to face these charges, both the UK and Sweden could prevent the Trump administration’s extradition request. Sweden were not informed of the planned arrest by Ecuador (the US was) which is dodgy, but they’re already taking steps to re-open the case less than a day after the event. Hooray, Sweden’

suzy, Friday, 12 April 2019 09:28 (seven years ago)

That’s not what I’m talking about (that you don’t know who you’re talking to online), but I do live in hope that you’ll at least pause before levelling some shit level take like that at me again.
