Hi, I'm confused and overwhelmed: Anything that comes after the withdrawal agreement would have to result in a borderless Ireland in order to get the backstop to go away, right? Which means at least customs union?

I suspect any formula that can be got thru Parliament will not be relying on the votes of MPs opposed to the backstop.

Customs Union feels largely incompatible with Lexit fantasies but that isn't a strong enough constituency in Westminster anyway.

In any case if we get No Deal then everybody dies for a few weeks and then the UK government goes right back to the negotiating table with zero leverage and we end up with basically the same thing anyway.

Customs union by itself doesn’t wholly solve the border, I think the single market is more important. And if you’re moving that way, the question is going to be, increasingly, what’s the fucking point?
