I'm ok with Glenn generally, but going on Tucker Carlson to gloat about russiagate seems dumb. Nothing wrong with going on Tucker's show, and more people should do so, but only if you're going to actually use his platform otherwise you're just his useful idiot.

The Michael Tracey guy seems unhinged, desperate to make a bigger name for himself, or both. Not a person to be taken seriously at any rate

How exactly is this supposed to work? It's well documented that if a Carlson segment goes poorly for him, he just won't air it.

grawlix (unperson), Monday, 1 April 2019 20:27 (seven years ago)

If thats a reference to the Dutch historian thing, I thought the historian guy totally blew that. Tucker would have aired the clip if the historian had stuck to talking about taxation. His decision to launch into a full blooded takedown of Fox/Carlson was never going to air and he knew that, was playing to gallery for the retweets instead.

You don't need the segment to go poorly for Carlson to still get points of view across (taxation, anti-war, legalization, m4a or whatever)

anvil, Monday, 1 April 2019 20:39 (seven years ago)

no one should ever go on tucker's show for any reason. i'm the final arbiter of this. thanks.

also glenn greenwald is perfectly indefensible. lock thread.

bamcquern, Monday, 1 April 2019 21:29 (seven years ago)

wow the Taibbi/Greenwald obsessives have been busy today, so

Didn't see David Corn at the local co-op today. I half expected to find him in the parking lot, selling his Russiagate book out of his trunk.

I've been to one of those conferences, it was a nightmare. Bill Cosby gave a speech that was basically a long riff on "get off my lawn, kids". Somehow the only moderately decent speech was Colin Powell.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 2 April 2019 17:48 (seven years ago)

I honestly don't get why Greenwald is so ride or die to defend Trump from accusations of corruption. Today he's hammering on "the only thing those Resistance wackos are unhappy about in Barr's report is that he suppressed any discussion of the evidence that people working for Trump obstructed justice," which, um, yeah, why would that not be something to be seriously unhappy about?

one month passes...

This 100+ thread is a tough read:

1) So now we have self-described “progressives” like @ggreenwald and @mtracey telling us that the threat of white nationalism in the USA is “nonexistent” (as Tracey put it), and when called out for that GG chimes in and claims that we “needs be keep the threat in perspective.” pic.twitter.com/89CDRKzN1v

Honestly the importance and impressiveness of the work he is doing in Brazil right now kind of makes most criticism seem petty.

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 19:57 (six years ago)

Idk anything about brad’s friend but he is literally risking his life to report something that could bring down an actual, literal fascist. That kind of makes whether he had the exact right take on twitter on exactly how we should approach white supremacists (“defending” is a gross distortion) seem petty, yes. But, you know, online.

Bolsonaro is like several orders of magnitude more authoritarian than trump. Or at least their system
Allows him to be whereas ours still places some checks on Trump.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 20:26 (six years ago)

or more that there's a system that could theoretically check Trump that, regardless of his efforts and bumbling, he can't significantly break down over four, or god forbid, eight years

untuned mass damper (mh), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 20:30 (six years ago)

Also FYI while I first learned of his recent story through Chapo, i also worked for a year on Lava Jato-related litigation and had already followed the larger story. So it’s not like I think it’s significant because Will M says so.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 20:32 (six years ago)

he is literally risking his life to report something that could bring down an actual, literal fascist

And there are no Brazilian journalists reporting on Bolsonaro, which is why The Intercept is the only place one can go to hear about all the terrible shit going on down there. ¡Viva Greenwald!

shared unit of analysis (unperson), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 20:38 (six years ago)

TheIntercept is good on Brazil, but the idea that this somehow invalidates criticism of Greenwald is nonsensical. It's really not that hard to avoid going on Tucker Carlson.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 21:56 (six years ago)

no one..said that

k3vin k., Wednesday, 31 July 2019 22:21 (six years ago)

Simon H., Wednesday, 31 July 2019 22:36 (six years ago)

Meaning, I take it, that criticism of him is not petty.

― shared unit of analysis (unperson), Wednesday, July 31, 2019 3:38 PM (yesterday) bookmarkflaglink

Actually, the Intercept literally broke the most significant corruption story since Lava Jato itself (and arguably a bigger one), and that story demonstrates that the entire Lava Jato investigation itself was rigged against PT. So it actually literally is true that the Intercept is the only place that one can go to hear about that particular thing which is of enormous significance. But I never actually expect the slightest degree of comprehension or sophistication to show up in your posts so I'm not really surprised by your stupidity here.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Thursday, 1 August 2019 05:08 (six years ago)

fwiw, I take back my statement that this renders criticism of him "petty" -- I don't want to argue with anyone's grievances against him. I just think he doesn't deserved to be "cancelled" in light of all of this. But his bravery pales in comparison to those who always dare to have the correct takes on everything.
