The bants express keeps on rolling

Nigel Dodds tells me the UK should stay in the EU if that was only way to preserve NI’s place in UK. ‘I would stay in the European Union and remain rather than risk Northern Ireland’s position. That’s how strongly I feel about the union.’

I passed some of these demonstrators a while back - younger ones 100% edgelord types and more middle class than me, older ones absolutely nailed on golf Nazis. Thankfully I didn’t encounter any of the loyalists.

So...a stranger comes up to me on the train today + asks “Mr Umunna, what are your favourite garage tracks from back in the day?”
My answer: “Saved my life” by Todd Edwards & “The Energy” by Astro Trax.

Feeling envious that the Tories can get rid of its thrash so easy and Labour have been fucking about.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 29 March 2019 23:24 (seven years ago)

in ref the point i was making earlier:

Many last-minute switcher Tory MPs now furious with Whips who told them it was close and their vote would make the difference. Not close at all. What a shambles.

— Daniel Moylan (@danielmgmoylan) March 29, 2019

it's the whips' job to pull this kind of stunt but if more lobby journalists were any good at all -- and if journalists generally imparted more actually correct insider information to the world beyond the westminster bubble -- then that job would be much harder. hard not to laugh here maybe bcz relations within the tory party have now reached a toxic level of distrust and shocked despair, and good, bcz fuck em. even so their immolation as a coherent force will likely arrive with an extreme release of toxicity aimed at everything else.

... and the crowd said DESELECT THEM (||||||||), Saturday, 30 March 2019 07:29 (seven years ago)

it’s very difficult to see anything other than a hardening of positions now. Tory MPs were frustrated they were told it was going to be close and ended up nowhere near. Hard to see anyone in Parliament being swayed now.

May’s behaviour is both entirely in character and mystifying. What does she think will change? Time, I guess.

Fizzles, Saturday, 30 March 2019 07:54 (seven years ago)

Morning thread!

I thought this yesterday when we were talking about the Labour rebels and how there was that great line about how they wouldn’t vote just to narrow her margin of defeat. That’s going to be even truer for the ERG hardliners. What’s the point in spending months talking up your opposition to the deal, only to waste your vote?

I don’t think any of them will vote with her next time.

gyac, Saturday, 30 March 2019 08:03 (seven years ago)

Dominic Grieve deselection campaign being led by someone who not only stood against him as Ukip candidate in GE 2017, was a UKIP local council candidate and local branch chairman of Ukip, but also stood for the UKIP National Executive Council in 2016... now a Conservative. pic.twitter.com/fuQ4wJilqz

— Faisal Islam (@faisalislam) March 30, 2019

I suspect you will see a fair bit of this as UKIP activists come back into the Conservatives.
