what's the restroom situation in other major subways? i honestly don't recall encountering them when i lived in dc and montreal or visiting elsewhere
i don't even know what a good solution would be -- maybe one of those canister-type things in european cities that basically hose everything down after each use? people are truly incredible savages in public bathrooms, as i learned working retail
― mookieproof, Thursday, 28 March 2019 22:50 (seven years ago)
In japan it is exceptionally good but almost everything bathroom related in japan is on another plane, including not being a savage in the bathroom. Acceptable here in Melbourne although not a lot of provision in most stations. London is non-existent.

the @MTA deliberately misled us into believing the service was delayed when in fact it was non-existent for over an hour. OK where did they find this off-brand woman to read the broken L train announcement like she's never heard of boroughs? "For service to... man... hat ten?"

I only hate the people with noise cancelers/loud headphones on the subway because they don't get the fuck out of the way when you yell at them to.
― Yerac, Sunday, 12 May 2019 16:42 (seven years ago)
And I would never wear them while moving in the city because I don't want to die that way.
― Yerac, Sunday, 12 May 2019 16:44 (seven years ago)
i am okay with dying that way i guess? it's been an adjustment and i don't leave them on all the time but it alleviates the nonstop intrusion of the world into every goddamn moment and turns the train from a traveling asylum back into a conveyance. I'm aware it may ultimately be a problem to be a true disconnected bystander but i feel like i may also have avoided several confrontations because i genuinely can't hear the guy cursing at everyone in the car, so I don't have to deal with it.

I'm going to be that anecdotal person and say that a woman from my hometown died at a train station (in Chicago iirc?) bc she had headphones on and stepped in front of an Amtrak train.

We suspect someone has intentionally disrupted thousands of commutes on the 2/3 lines today by activating multiple trains’ emergency brakes. If you see any suspicious behavior, please @ or DM us details ASAP, including car #, so we can get trains back on schedule.— NYCT Subway (@NYCTSubway) May 21, 2019

― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 23 May 2019 12:03 (seven years ago)
This person has an established M.O., the source said, and Jalopnik confirmed this by reviewing internal incident reports. There are at least three so far.
The suspect disrupts service primarily on the 2 and 5 lines from Flatbush Avenue in central Brooklyn to midtown Manhattan. He climbs aboard the rear of the train as it departs a station, unlocks the safety chains, somehow gets into the rear cab, and triggers the emergency brakes. Then, he disappears, most likely through the subway tunnels and out an emergency exit.
Despite striking on average once a week for several months, the person has not been caught.
