Fair

Trϵϵship, Wednesday, 27 March 2019 23:37 (seven years ago)

I thought her book was illuminating but i’m not on board with her going on tucker etc.

Trϵϵship, Wednesday, 27 March 2019 23:37 (seven years ago)

When I wrote this both Glenn and Michael Tracey shared it, now I’m a Russiagate careerist from Brooklyn who lives in North Carolina https://t.co/qWTVnVQFT4

I just googled greenwald. His husband is very handsome, jeez

Trϵϵship, Thursday, 28 March 2019 00:10 (seven years ago)

Who are all these people

moose; squirrel (silby), Thursday, 28 March 2019 00:16 (seven years ago)

Has Michael Tracey done/written anything particularly notable/worth reading? I feel like I’ve only become aware of him in the context of him going on Carlson to rant about russiagate.

JoeStork, Thursday, 28 March 2019 00:28 (seven years ago)

And half of twitter arguing about him, but I’m not clear why he matters.

JoeStork, Thursday, 28 March 2019 00:29 (seven years ago)

None of these people have done anything notable. They could all be buried in the same avalanche at no loss to the world.

grawlix (unperson), Thursday, 28 March 2019 00:31 (seven years ago)

Not quite as baffling as the obsession with WASBAPPIN among people I follow on twitter but getting there.

JoeStork, Thursday, 28 March 2019 00:32 (seven years ago)

what is really bappin, is what we wonder

mh, Thursday, 28 March 2019 00:36 (seven years ago)

Michael Tracey is a weird contrarian freelance journo, basically unfollowable on twitter because his hot takes are so annoying. His claim to fame is reporting during the Trump campaign and predicting Trump's victory.

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 28 March 2019 00:40 (seven years ago)

Hes a russiagate critic

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 28 March 2019 00:41 (seven years ago)

maxine waters apparently violently assaulted him by kind of nudging him out of the way once

mh, Thursday, 28 March 2019 00:44 (seven years ago)

i'm glad i got something from this revive, another reason to like maxine waters

cheese canopy (map), Thursday, 28 March 2019 04:20 (seven years ago)

Yeah she barely brushed him and he cried assault.

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 28 March 2019 04:49 (seven years ago)

I'm ok with Glenn generally, but going on Tucker Carlson to gloat about russiagate seems dumb. Nothing wrong with going on Tucker's show, and more people should do so, but only if you're going to actually use his platform otherwise you're just his useful idiot.

The Michael Tracey guy seems unhinged, desperate to make a bigger name for himself, or both. Not a person to be taken seriously at any rate

anvil, Monday, 1 April 2019 20:23 (seven years ago)

Nothing wrong with going on Tucker's show, and more people should do so, but only if you're going to actually use his platform otherwise you're just his useful idiot.

How exactly is this supposed to work? It's well documented that if a Carlson segment goes poorly for him, he just won't air it.

grawlix (unperson), Monday, 1 April 2019 20:27 (seven years ago)

If thats a reference to the Dutch historian thing, I thought the historian guy totally blew that. Tucker would have aired the clip if the historian had stuck to talking about taxation. His decision to launch into a full blooded takedown of Fox/Carlson was never going to air and he knew that, was playing to gallery for the retweets instead.

You don't need the segment to go poorly for Carlson to still get points of view across (taxation, anti-war, legalization, m4a or whatever)

anvil, Monday, 1 April 2019 20:39 (seven years ago)

no one should ever go on tucker's show for any reason. i'm the final arbiter of this. thanks.

also glenn greenwald is perfectly indefensible. lock thread.

bamcquern, Monday, 1 April 2019 21:29 (seven years ago)

wow the Taibbi/Greenwald obsessives have been busy today, so

Didn't see David Corn at the local co-op today. I half expected to find him in the parking lot, selling his Russiagate book out of his trunk.

(tbc i appreciate the intercept. that image just reminded me of the stuff you see on subway walls advertising these amorphous "leadership conferences.")

I've been to one of those conferences, it was a nightmare. Bill Cosby gave a speech that was basically a long riff on "get off my lawn, kids". Somehow the only moderately decent speech was Colin Powell.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 2 April 2019 17:48 (seven years ago)

I honestly don't get why Greenwald is so ride or die to defend Trump from accusations of corruption. Today he's hammering on "the only thing those Resistance wackos are unhappy about in Barr's report is that he suppressed any discussion of the evidence that people working for Trump obstructed justice," which, um, yeah, why would that not be something to be seriously unhappy about?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 4 April 2019 22:05 (seven years ago)

one month passes...

This 100+ thread is a tough read:

1) So now we have self-described “progressives” like @ggreenwald and @mtracey telling us that the threat of white nationalism in the USA is “nonexistent” (as Tracey put it), and when called out for that GG chimes in and claims that we “needs be keep the threat in perspective.” pic.twitter.com/89CDRKzN1v

Honestly the importance and impressiveness of the work he is doing in Brazil right now kind of makes most criticism seem petty.

nope

Hunt3r, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 03:51 (six years ago)

He criticized the Iraq War once, so the defense of white supremacists is cool.

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 12:45 (six years ago)

petty my ass

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 12:48 (six years ago)

not even gonna ask

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 19:57 (six years ago)

Idk anything about brad’s friend but he is literally risking his life to report something that could bring down an actual, literal fascist. That kind of makes whether he had the exact right take on twitter on exactly how we should approach white supremacists (“defending” is a gross distortion) seem petty, yes. But, you know, online.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 20:02 (six years ago)

he misgendered my friend while defending jesse singal, who writes transphobic garbage for the atlantic. i have no doubt that his work in brazil is important. thank god i can hate his guts anyway

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 20:03 (six years ago)

i'm glad a chapo episode convinced you that we all don't have legitimate grievances against this shithead tho
