I feel like Tan’s enthusiasm is measured but genuine while Antoni’s feels increasingly fake as episodes go by.

antoni definitely seems the most... guarded? i feel like we've learned the least about his background for sure

I am not an Antoni fan but when he was wearing that fuzzy pink sweater, i was like, oh... yeah he's pretty hot there

I am so glad Karamo stopped drawing in his hair. He looks completely nice bald.

i am forever in awe of jonathan's ability to be completely jonathan in every situation and to get seemingly everyone he meets 100% on the jonathan train

Antoni is the most attractive to me personally, but also, as acknowledged in the first season, he's the most "straight-passing" of the bunch. (I think this was addressed in re to going to rural places and how it worried some of the others but not him and he was like "Yeah but they just think I'm straight.") Seems like it would be a) dumb and b) against the whole ethos of the show for him to be pressured to be more performative than he genuinely feels? He and Bobby are kinda the antidote to Tan and jvn's big big personalities.

Antoni is clearly doing as much as he can (or else the show's producers are) to downplay his privilege. Tho if it's the producers, at least even they knew they had to leave in that bit about Antoni going to a riding camp and Karamo retoring, "We were poor."

For the first time I am not feeling the outfits that Tan has picked.

Camo lady likes camo, Tan gets her camo. Camp manager guy doesn't wash, so they get him clothes that don't smell when he sweats. I fully expected them to tell that man he needed to get his act together and wash more often.

Jezebel just did a write up today that near the end kind of touched on this^^^. I don't really agree with the entire piece, some of it feels muddled on my two quick reads. And I prefer the episodes that aren't focused on the heteronormative men.

I'm glad someone brought up in the comments that Karamo is a licensed therapist and social worker and hates his culture expert title on the show.

at least Tan didn't try to make anyone wear that bizarre belted sweatshirt look he had going in a few episodes. it looked like he was wearing a seatbelt?

they should change Karamo's title for sure. i also think it would be helpful if they hooked these people up with more long term therapy options (finding someone can be the biggest hurdle) but i assume there is a HIPAA reason for that

Good points in the thread and in the comments on that article about the role Karamo plays, and how “culture” is such a reductive label for it. I don’t think I’d properly realised his work/education background but it totally makes sense.

It was Wanda who really broke my heart. For her to develop a tough, no-frills life and let nothing in, presumably in order to protect herself and her girls, and then to find out that they are actually scared of her and that she didn't do as good a job as she thought she did... that was hard to watch. She genuinely did not seem to understand what was happening. I hope she and her daughters get some further help.

I loved Wanda but she seemed to need something much deeper than they could give her in a week - I got the feeling that her stepping back from her job was more lip service than anything? And she was so hurt by that talk with her daughters ... like maybe Karamo should be deployed to stay an extra month with her lol idk

I know people rag on Antoni but i like him a lot. To be fair his remit doesn't really enable him to do much because changing diets and health takes years, not a week.

This is weird bc I've been doing them (along with literally everyone else) since the late 80s when I was in jr high and high school and we all wore oversized men's tshirts. I still do it! I think they just put "French" on it to sound fancy.

The Antoni and Wanda scene was so uncomfortable and confusing.

the whole wanda episode left a bit of a bad taste - the usual method for creating a good episode just seemed to go wrong in all kinds of unexpected ways and i ended up feeling kinda worried for the relationship between her and her daughters, she just seemed so shocked that her perception of them being three inseparable buddies was just not how they saw it at all

lmao at karamo just flat-out refusing to engage with / being horrified by rural life in farmer matt’s episode

thought Wesley's shooter could've at least said something like "I felt justified at the time doing what I did, but man seeing that you're still in a wheelchair from something I did in heat of the moment gives me pause". That Wesley still got closure from that encounter...props to him.

From the Karamo article, Wesley and the guy were there for 3 hours talking.
