I dunno how you define stuck around, but IIRC all the people Andrew listed posted here for years.

I thought you meant still posting.

The Vangelis of Dating (Tom D.), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 19:14 (seven years ago)

he means stuck around in the sense of ended up not sticking around

mark s, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 19:26 (seven years ago)

Also, me.

There's more Italy than necessary. (in orbit), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 20:00 (seven years ago)

hi there in orbit! :)

mh, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 20:49 (seven years ago)

What is the cut off point for ILX history? What defined ILX this decade historically?

nashwan, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:03 (seven years ago)

hmm beyond generally "mellowing out" it's hard to separate out from general changes in internet and discursive culture in the same period imo.

What is the cut off point for ILX history? the Luna incident

What defined ILX this decade historically? polls

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:09 (seven years ago)

the eternal now, signified by a lack of tumult (or relatively predictable tumult) in the lives of long-term posters

symptoms include drop-off in number of posters or frequency of posting as people end up more engaged in jobs/family/obligations, less interest in bombastic modes of argument, and the recycling of previous discourse around genre conventions

mh, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:12 (seven years ago)

not being good or funny

~mine own~ bitcoin (darraghmac), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:12 (seven years ago)

What defined ILX this decade historically? trump, brexit, the golden state warriors, dmac complaining

mookieproof, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:14 (seven years ago)

yeah p much

but also some really great new/young posters who don't have as much of a "brand" b/c of not being involved in so much tumult.

radio button polls started in the late 00s no? like circa 06, 07 i wanna say. think ilm had pretty much polled every major label album ever released before 2010.

|Restore| |Restart| |Quit| (Doctor Casino), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:15 (seven years ago)

yeah I think you're right about the polls being earlier

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:18 (seven years ago)

there used to be FAPS like every single weekend I remember.

Yerac, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:18 (seven years ago)

the elite dreams of ilx have basically been fully realized, nothing more to attain

shoulda zagged (esby), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:20 (seven years ago)

there used to be FAPS like every single weekend I remember.

there still are, ppl just don't post about them

steven, soda jerk (sic), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:21 (seven years ago)

queens used to be closer than it is now

mookieproof, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:23 (seven years ago)

heh, I guess it's easier to coordinate by texting message groups instead of public message boards.

Yerac, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:24 (seven years ago)

everything used to be closer, I remember not even leaving the apt to go out until 11:30pm most of the time.

Yerac, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:24 (seven years ago)

In Orbit - yes i'm baffled/amazed at the number of Euro tourists too! It's like there was a really popular German TV show set in Bed Stuy and they're making a pilgrimage or something.
But I would recommend it Tracer!

NYCILX had like separate golden eras when lots of noize bd ppl used to hang all the time, also the adam schefter/ghostrider/mookieproof/jtm/dayo/chinavision/morbs/max etc era which sort of lingers, I'm out of touch now but I vaguely see ppl getting together or fb or w/e.

I owe a former candy store denizen an email actually bc she just got in touch a bit nostalgically and I do have magical memories of some of those times.

There's more Italy than necessary. (in orbit), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:28 (seven years ago)

there was the time period where geeta, nabisco, allyzay, yanc3y, felicity, bnw, hstencil, alex in nyc, jbr, et al were always out and then overlapping with the noize board. Bars got very expensive.

Yerac, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:33 (seven years ago)

Satori, it's always nice.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:33 (seven years ago)

i remember i was going to meet up with some NYCILX/noise peeps at boredoms 777 but i got too wasted and idk what happened

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:34 (seven years ago)

old ILX = AIM era
nu ILX = FB era

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:36 (seven years ago)

(ie slice it doon the middle at around the 2007-2008 point)

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:36 (seven years ago)

xp that sounds like a standard boredoms experience tbh

mh, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:36 (seven years ago)

is the nu-ilx dividing line revisionism. the old divider used to be "back when anyone could start a board" or something.

plax (ico), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:43 (seven years ago)

i met a lot of the nyc ilxors they were dicks

🥰

~mine own~ bitcoin (darraghmac), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:50 (seven years ago)

feel like the creation of 77 was a dividing line

mookieproof, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:51 (seven years ago)

i forget that there are people who are not on 77

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:52 (seven years ago)

mookie - that happened around 2007 too iirc

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 21:59 (seven years ago)

77, never been interesed in it, what's the point of it?

The Vangelis of Dating (Tom D.), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 22:27 (seven years ago)

You’re not on there? So weird. We talk about you a lot.

Trϵϵship, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 22:27 (seven years ago)

xp. de-indexed, you have to ask for an invite. so not as public as rest of ilx - there are some de-indexed threads on the rest of ilx of course

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 22:29 (seven years ago)

Yeah, but why is it there?

The Vangelis of Dating (Tom D.), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 22:32 (seven years ago)

because crut discovered it and then they gave the board to him, iirc

the privacy/deindex part came later I think?

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 22:33 (seven years ago)

People can talk about things they wouldn’t want on a public forum. Still risky but you know

Trϵϵship, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 22:33 (seven years ago)

OK. I'm not going to do that anyway so it's not for me.

The Vangelis of Dating (Tom D.), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 22:35 (seven years ago)

I can see how that would potentially have changed ILX radically.

The Vangelis of Dating (Tom D.), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 22:36 (seven years ago)

RIP Daddys

ian, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 22:37 (seven years ago)

I was at the Big Hunt the other week and felt nostalgic for glory days if ilxDC.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 22:51 (seven years ago)

Also nostalgia for the sandbox days. When was that?

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 22:52 (seven years ago)

77, never been interesed in it, what's the point of it?

― The Vangelis of Dating (Tom D.),

the second comma is almost pushed back through my entire screen from the pivot performed on top of it

steven, soda jerk (sic), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 22:56 (seven years ago)

2001-2003 feels like a distinct era to me

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 23:00 (seven years ago)

(xp) Don't know what you mean?

The Vangelis of Dating (Tom D.), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 23:00 (seven years ago)

I am joking about you saying you have no interest in X and then immediately asking about X

steven, soda jerk (sic), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 23:04 (seven years ago)

I er think that might be a rhetorical last clause there, sic

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 13 March 2019 23:05 (seven years ago)

Tom's followup suggests he was asking in good, if disinterested, faith

the joke stands either way though!

steven, soda jerk (sic), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 23:08 (seven years ago)

Good, if disinterested, faith sums it up. Mostly I think I hate the idea of asking for permission to join something or be nominated to join something, or whatever the process is.

The Vangelis of Dating (Tom D.), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 23:11 (seven years ago)

the creation of 77 was not it, tom always acts completely bewildered by it and thats a decade old now

the mod action against ask chaki is the actual answer

modern ilx is the result of that decision between two factions (wrong choice obv)

~mine own~ bitcoin (darraghmac), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 23:20 (seven years ago)

xp it’s about as much of a request as asking a friend if they’d grab you a drink while they’re already going to the kitchen
