my oxo barista brain is still treating me really good

might have a possible grinder situation going on -- have one of those bodum bistro burr grinders (say that one fast, hah) and the little timer dial doesn't seem to be doing much. it stops grinding randomly, but it's possible it just has a clog or something and it's freezing up

gonna have to do some cleanout/grinder surgery this week to figure out if it's a mechanical issue

when it clogs it makes a VERY violent sound so I'm not sure it's that but it does come apart easily so rooting around is pretty painless

mostly irritated because running it for 20 seconds on the right setting creates the exact amount i'd need to run a 4 cup batch through the coffee maker and i'm currently back to measuring scoops until this situation is rectified

reddit discussions seem to be indicating that i reassembled it wrong after a previous cleaning

made some strong ass coffee last night for a long day today. super caffeinated, properly caffeinated. mild headache now & earlier, took an advil. but I feel good. sleep soon. ah. another day. not so bad

This week the beans are from Guatemala and I’m not liking them as much as the Ethiopian ones. More bitter but not in a good way.

when I lived in the northwest I'd ask for a double espresso or doppio and would get two shots.

When I moved back to the Michigan I'd ask for this and people looked confused and I always ended up with four shots in a coffee mug.

By the time you add in a tip you’re looking at almost $4 for an espresso at most decent places around here (NYC). Yes it’s a double but the single is usually the same price. They pull a double and toss half of it.

There's a new (?) chain in NYC called Seven Grams, the name of which presumably refers to the dose of grounds in a single espresso, but I have not been inside it to verify.

there's a very fancy coffee place near me that won't pour single shots for love or money. but my local video store will.

I put a slug of chicory liqueur in my 2nd cup this morning, felt a little guilty for morning drinking... for about 2 seconds.

I had a really half-assed cold brew mixed drink recently with one of those starbucks via instant packets, one shot of bourbon, and a couple sugar cubes mixed thoroughly and poured over ice

it was really tasty
