and there it goes
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 8 June 2009 19:40 (seventeen years ago)
Im not looking forwarded to a properly motivated Chris Gayle knocking englands bowlers all around the ground.
anderson will have him...
but i'm not sure it's a forgone conclusion which group england will get into. still depends on the pak v ned game. bbc sport doesn't have england lined up yet for any particular super 8 games.
― whatever, Monday, 8 June 2009 19:40 (seventeen years ago)

― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 9 June 2009 15:08 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, looking suspiciously like Scotland - played well in their opening game, ruthlessly dispatched by the sort of team we expect to demolish us.

SA v. NZ should be tasty, even though there is nothing to play for.
― Achtung Blobby (Neil S), Tuesday, 9 June 2009 15:41 (seventeen years ago)
If i were NZ I'd be pissed off at missing out on the free hit when the umpires failed to spot that there was only 3 fielders in the circle in the 2nd last over.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 9 June 2009 19:55 (seventeen years ago)
always wondered why fixtures in the super 8 were lined up before all the key fixtures were completed.
http://www.ecb.co.uk/news/world/icc-world-twenty20-2009/format/
wouldn't have mattered if pakistan had scored 300 and bowled netherlands out for 3, england were always seeded B2. only change to the pre-seedings is that instead of australia we get west indies.
going to be interesting next round. someone (and of course we presume england) is going to have a howler. tonight's s.a/n.z. game was a great one, showing you don't have to slog out all the time for 2020 to be compelling.
i'm not sure it's a foregone conclusion that england will lose all three. WI and to a lesser degree SA are there to be beaten. I'd be amazed if India don't win the tournament.

kiss of death there
― problem chimp (Porkpie), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 13:31 (seventeen years ago)
Also, funny commentary:
Ian Bishop (as Jayasuriya plays and misses): Could this be the end of his career, the eyesight goes, you miss where once you could hit?
next ball
Ian Bishop (as Jayasuriya wangs it for six over square leg): Wonderful shot! Could this be the start of his revival after a slump in form!
other comm (as Jayasuriya steps back in his crease a bit): And that is what he has to do more and more as he gets older with the brisker bowlers, just step back in his crease - he doesn't quite have the time that he once had.
(as Jayasuriya then wangs the ball through point): And that's what makes him so good! A step back in the crease just gives him that extra time so that he can do that to you!
― GamalielRatsey, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 13:33 (seventeen years ago)
I love Ian Bishop - probably the best player I ever saw play for Derbyshire
― problem chimp (Porkpie), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 13:37 (seventeen years ago)
Same here, although unfortunately I never saw him at a ground. He's a good commentator as well.
― GamalielRatsey, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 13:39 (seventeen years ago)
I saw him play at Queens park and he tore through the tail end of....can't remember...in the space of about 3 overs, absolutely brutal.
I wonder what Karl Krikken's up to now, he was lovably mental (and also v v good)
― problem chimp (Porkpie), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 13:47 (seventeen years ago)
So head says SA, heart says England this evening. We have won the toss at least...
