strangely i don't like his movie podcast -- there's another guy on it who always shouts over everyone. (also their movie tastes don't line up with my own, but whatever.)

I've stopped listening to Comedy Bang Bang except for episodes with Mantzoukas. I miss him on Brooklyn Nine-Nine too.

Paul Scheer! I find him and Rob Corddry indistinguishably annoying. Was disappointing to see him turn up on Good Place a couple of weeks ago. But then he disappeared again. Good.

Generally any podcast that involves a group of two or three men laughing at their own in-jokes is a hard NO for me, even if I like all the people involved

Chuck_Tatum, Tuesday, 29 January 2019 15:22 (seven years ago)

lol they just look v similar

Mordy, Tuesday, 29 January 2019 15:26 (seven years ago)

they're both horrible overactors too

I might have to check that one out, I do like PFT a lot but it depends on who the other guests are.

one month passes...

I like this show, but I could do without the use of HOLY MOTHERFORKING SHIRTBALLS by self-satisfied drama-club nerds.

jaymc, Monday, 11 March 2019 03:31 (seven years ago)

I’ve heard no one use that irl :)

nah, me neither -- I just mean like AV Club commenter types

Schur is capping it at four. I trust his instincts.

I bet a hard season limit was among Lindelof's pieces of advice, lol

Simon H., Saturday, 8 June 2019 03:12 (seven years ago)

If it can pull a Justified (subpar penultimate season followed by return-to-form-and-then-some) then good. Lots of incidental pleasures last season but was generally disappointing.

Adverts for the new season accentuating that it's the last one have started cropping up on podcasts I listen to over the last few days.

Second year in a row a new season has been a birthday present to me.

Kept to the tradition of the new season dropping on my birthday.

Happy bday!

Good episode, tho they shoulda just shown both halves this week. I’m liking the fact this season looks like it’ll bring Maximum Derek

Series overview/behind the scenes/best of The Paley Centre Salutes the Good Place was quite fun.

Sorry to hear about end of the show, but it probably is good that they quit while they're ahead.

Stevolende, Sunday, 29 September 2019 11:59 (six years ago)

Is this the first episode that didn't include a topic from moral philosophy?

wasdnuos (abanana), Sunday, 29 September 2019 15:00 (six years ago)

Why the hell did it say "to be continued" at the end? How was it different than any other episode (in terms of the level of cliffhanger)?

Evan, Sunday, 29 September 2019 15:18 (six years ago)

Idk, Simone was basically dealing with simulation theory, how to act of you don't believe the world is real?

Like the past two season openers, they made a 1-hour episode, but this time NBC cut it in half to debut the new Schur afterwards.

how to act if you don't believe the world is real?

this is a highly peculiar verbal construct. the fact that this question can be asked is no surety that it has any meaning at all, let alone any conceivable answer.

Oh. Well it seemed to wrapped up close to the same as any other episode so they didn't really have to bother imo.

that must be why it was so underwhelming

times 牛肉麵 (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 29 September 2019 22:24 (six years ago)

I don't know, I thought it was great. Rampaging Simone is great and the boring lady was amazing top to bottom.

brigadier pudding (DJP), Monday, 30 September 2019 00:46 (six years ago)

yeah, full of excellent moments, it just felt underwhelming for a season premiere.

btw i have a full-blown crush on chris baker, which just goes onto the pile of crushes i have on the performers in this unfairly attractive show

times 牛肉麵 (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 30 September 2019 01:23 (six years ago)

like, if you are bi this show is properly unfair

times 牛肉麵 (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 30 September 2019 01:24 (six years ago)

I was very glad the boring lady turned out to be a demon, as I was already worried about that (good) joke wearing thin over any more episodes

Simon H., Monday, 30 September 2019 01:50 (six years ago)

I dunno; I’m not big on doing the reboot-cycle on Chidi for a third(or more) time

Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Thursday, 3 October 2019 18:57 (six years ago)

Not sure why, but I feel I’m going to be v disappointed in the series if this last season doesn’t have an emancipatory aspect to it. They’ve covered both moral development but also how an archaic & sclerotic moral system literally dooms everyone within it, and it feels like the final critical task to destroy the illegitimate system and liberate both themselves and humanity.

It seemed like they were giving hints about that at the end of the last season with the “No one is going to save you and fix things, Michael, you have to do it yourself” bits

Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Thursday, 3 October 2019 19:05 (six years ago)

Also how it is I’ve been watching this show for years and never twigged to the fact that Ted Danson’s character not shares both name and job as creator/architect as the show’s creator/showrunner?

This sounds right.

I made my cousin watch the first couple of episodes (s1) - did Chidi have his teeth fixed at some point? They look different!

kinder, Sunday, 6 October 2019 21:04 (six years ago)

two weeks pass...

I enjoyed this episode - even if the shapelessness of this season is a mess.
