it's a bit of a contraction to assert that the truth is complex and then express it in simple drawing. it is what it's critiquing.
― ryan, Monday, 28 January 2019 19:46 (seven years ago)
Truth is simple but it's too complex to be understood by the simplistic human mind. #trenchant #dousee

The Onion did a much better riff on the "typical political cartoon" joke iirc.

Not Stan Kelly, an article about a political cartoon. Ungoogleable now bc of stan kelly.

lol, that's good too, the one I remember is just about a political cartoon being confusing and having lots of labeled parts

If I'm reading the cartoon correctly, the new Facebook branded laptop is extremely popular but in extremely short supply, leading to situations where scores of people haplessly attempt to use a single machine at once. Even the popular novel entitled Book (known in part for the irreverent placement of its title on the back cover instead of the front) cannot hold the attention of those in proximity to one of these wondrous marvels of technology.

almost all "you think X is bad but Y is much worse" takes are trenchant
― Mordy, Thursday, 14 March 2019 15:36 (seven years ago)
my whole feed seems to be these takes right now. I got into a pointless argument with a friend about it. She's a very high earning professional but didn't go to college and she thinks no one should care about this. But she has kids and I know she'd be mad about this if her kids were applying to college right now, regardless of whether it's "the way things work" or there are worse problems in the world.

Yup, in fact the takes are split between "x is worse" and "come on, everyone already knew this and if you didn't you were a sucker" (and combos of the two).

tbf it looks like she'd have a pretty good chance, as a high-earning professional, to buy her kid a way into college
