“I'm on a plane that looks like it's going to fall apart, and I'm leaving for Cardiff,” Sala said in a WhatsApp audio message carried by Argentine media.“If in an hour and a half you have no news from me, I don't know if they will send people to look for me, because they will not find me, you know. Dad, I'm so scared,” he added.

Fuck, whoever took the decision to put him on that plane is criminally negligent at best and maybe guilty of manslaughter?

oh god that message ;_;

as someone with a lifelong fear of flying and a big terra firma fan, it seems to have played out just like my worst paranoid nightmares about getting on a plane, and in particular one of these small planes. I'd imagine if his parents have given this very personal stuff to the Argentinian media themselves, they are feeling a lot of anger as well as anguish.
― calzino, Wednesday, 23 January 2019 10:23 (seven years ago)
Cardiff have been at pains to point out that apparently Sala organized the plane himself.
This is the pilot (and plane) apparently talking about all the things that can go wrong:

TBH, it’s not just the type of aeroplane, it’s the type of flying that is being undertaken. Flying at night, overwater, in weather is probably the hardest flying that any pilot will ever do. There are a number of effects that upset the human gyroscopic balance, which can become deadly. Effects such as black hole effect, where a pilot gets disoriented by the darkness, giving a feeling of too high, too low or just not flying level. Strobe effect, where the flashing white lights bounce off surrounding clouds and cause disorientation and nausea. The leans, which is one of the most deadly. Often caused by false horizons from lights or clouds, also caused from accelerations in turbulence(especially at night), where the body/brain thinks the aircraft is flying in a turn or straight or climbing or descending, when in fact the aircraft is flying not as perceived by the brain. The pilot then compensates for the feeling by turning or pushing down or applying power, which increases the feeling, which then leads to the pilot turning further or pushing further. Just ends in a crash. It’s the most awful and scary feeling on a dark night.Throw in the fact that the equipment isn’t really the best to be taking on those conditions, an aging, single engine turboprop aircraft with most likely a primitive autopilot and navigational/radio aids, it puts this pilot in a difficult situation. I’m trying not to speculate here and trying more to offer a number of reasons why I personally would have never stepped on that aircraft.

some more horrific context from someone who has flown one of these things.

horrible
we had a very high publicity rescue helicopter crash a few years back and even a basic skim over the environment, scenarios and likely causes were similarly nightmarish

Gah. Fucking Newcastle. Must have gotten a boost by Tony Blair today.
Getting rid of Sanchez is easy: disband contract. It's only right. Fuck fetching some millions for that tosser.

ahem, Sanchez has been pretty good so far under Solksjaer
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 29 January 2019 22:49 (seven years ago)
He's had a couple of good *moments*. In his overall play, he's been slow, sloppy and weak
He looks inferior to Lingard and he's the Premier League's highest paid player by a distance. And there's absolutely no indication he's going to get anywhere near his levels of 2-3 season ago
He's wasted out wide because he can't go past players anymore, so the only place you could really play him is in false 9 role. But he doesn't have the pressing ability to play there in Solskjaer's system. Also he seems to get in Pogba's way, generally
He's done
