I enjoyed last night's show. The Millenial Millionaires, the Urn. Nothing totally LOL (except maybe Mulaney).

Yerac, Sunday, 20 January 2019 16:14 (seven years ago)

Agreed that this was an uncommonly and consistently funny episode. The Mule bit was fantastic.

The video is linked in this review if you live somewhere that doesn't block it (eg, not Canada):

Timothée Charalambides (cryptosicko), Sunday, 20 January 2019 18:09 (seven years ago)

yeah, those jokes about buzzfeed were lazy and not funny. ^^^ Even just remembering how they broke the orphanage thing, the dossier and printed the Brock Turner letter off the top of my head.

Yerac, Sunday, 20 January 2019 18:13 (seven years ago)

They really need to get rid of Jost and Che.

Yerac, Sunday, 20 January 2019 18:18 (seven years ago)

I guess I'm in the minority in liking Jost and Che. They fit the template of preppy smugness first established by Chevy Chase for Update, and they're constant attempts to one-up each other are usually great.

Timothée Charalambides (cryptosicko), Sunday, 20 January 2019 18:21 (seven years ago)

they both suck and jost as head writer is a drag on this show

21st savagery fox (m bison), Sunday, 20 January 2019 18:22 (seven years ago)

otm on them sucking and the head writer thing.

Yerac, Sunday, 20 January 2019 18:23 (seven years ago)

Che is not great but Jost is the fucking pits

A-B-C. A-Always, B-Be, C-Chooglin (will), Sunday, 20 January 2019 18:39 (seven years ago)

it's like they are both playing the straight man. I think Jost plays a good-to-great straight man but still this is not a good formula!

calumy (rip van wanko), Sunday, 20 January 2019 18:42 (seven years ago)

I really really want some lower back spikes. Dipped in poison.

Yerac, Sunday, 20 January 2019 18:47 (seven years ago)

Jost has been moralizing more lately, I liked him more when he was Norm-lite

flappy bird, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 18:42 (seven years ago)

The name change office sketch, for being a bunch of super-cheap and easy jokes, really made me laugh.

Plinka Trinka Banga Tink (Eliza D.), Tuesday, 22 January 2019 19:09 (seven years ago)

Oh yeah, I laughed at that. Especially since my brothers and I have rhyming names so I was like HEY!

Yerac, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 19:13 (seven years ago)

two weeks pass...

I've seen an exceptional amount of anti-SNL chatter tonight but can't tell why?

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Sunday, 10 February 2019 06:32 (seven years ago)

nvm I am once again sorry I asked

Keep being asked if this is real. Sorry! pic.twitter.com/sCQ981xia8

oh dear lord

Calgary customer Elvis Cavalic (bizarro gazzara), Sunday, 10 February 2019 16:07 (seven years ago)

There were a couple of okay sketches last night--the one where Kenan Thompson played a middle aged dad with a popular amateur porn account displayed an astonishing awareness of contemporary gay lingo--but SNL's current attempts at topical humour are almost never not awful.

Timothée Charalambides (cryptosicko), Sunday, 10 February 2019 16:33 (seven years ago)

That Women of Congress sketch was fucking terrible and gives credence to that piece about SNL's cold opens being god awful political propaganda (I know this wasn't a cold open). Them Trumps at least has a joke in it; that had zero.

Thank god Kenan is still on this show because he saves basically every skit he's in these days (so does Kate McKinnon). This season has been pretty crappy.

akm, Sunday, 10 February 2019 18:32 (seven years ago)

i wonder if theyll ever cancel this show

21st savagery fox (m bison), Sunday, 10 February 2019 18:35 (seven years ago)

I'm curious who wrote "Women of Congress". Dreadful indeed

calumy (rip van wanko), Sunday, 10 February 2019 18:38 (seven years ago)

I do like Kate McKinnon's Wilbur Ross, who is basically just her Guiliani with a more frozen face

akm, Sunday, 10 February 2019 18:51 (seven years ago)

still baffled by love for for Kenan Thompson and his one-note obviousness+loud schtick

Rhine Jive Click Bait (Hadrian VIII), Sunday, 10 February 2019 20:06 (seven years ago)

the man has been doing nothing but sketch comedy for 25 years straight, give him a break

21st savagery fox (m bison), Sunday, 10 February 2019 20:15 (seven years ago)

i wonder if theyll ever cancel this show

nope. the production costs are really cheap for the ad revenue it generates. even if ratings crash for a season or two they'll retool it, recast it, or rebrand it and try to keep it going. its a money thing.

A is for (Aimless), Sunday, 10 February 2019 20:20 (seven years ago)

He’s leaving to host a variety sketch show of some sort or competition or something.

dan selzer, Sunday, 10 February 2019 20:24 (seven years ago)

thank god

Rhine Jive Click Bait (Hadrian VIII), Sunday, 10 February 2019 20:28 (seven years ago)

Is he leaving? The show's on NBC, probably for the summer season. He can do both.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 10 February 2019 20:28 (seven years ago)

to everyone hating on SNL so much: you try working with 30 other people to come up with ~40 minutes of funny material every week and you have no other commitments and it's your full-time job and it pays pretty good. not as easy as it looks.

calumy (rip van wanko), Sunday, 10 February 2019 22:29 (seven years ago)

that Family Feud sketch had to be the worst version they've ever done, right?

Also feel bad for Don Cheadle for hosting such a lame ep

blood, loud screaming and nudity (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 19 February 2019 09:44 (seven years ago)

That Lollipop sketch was one of my favorite this season.

Yerac, Friday, 22 February 2019 00:28 (seven years ago)

That was good. So were the Roach-Ex and Puppy Pound fake ads, the cake competition, Fresh Takes (the school show with the loose-lipped teacher), and Beck Bennet's Jules thing on Update. I thought this was the best episode in a while.

DJI, Friday, 22 February 2019 00:39 (seven years ago)

best game show sketch of the year so far, even if it was a little clunky in spots

also Toilet Death Ejector

blood, loud screaming and nudity (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 3 March 2019 08:02 (seven years ago)

That game show was so great. John Mulaney should host every year.

Yerac, Sunday, 3 March 2019 15:19 (seven years ago)

And the Bodega Man sketch was pretty good/loling.

Yerac, Sunday, 3 March 2019 15:51 (seven years ago)

Game show sketch was repeat/extension of similar one some seasons ago, I remember guest knowing all these people then host brings out the contestants door man.

Super good episode through and through (minus music guest). Bodega sketch was epic and refreshing for them. Didn’t they do an epic musical kinda thing last time he hosted?

Header is always a great of course.

dan selzer, Monday, 4 March 2019 02:50 (seven years ago)

The musical sketch from Mulaney's first time hosting was an unrealized one that he had crafted back when he was a writer on SNL that he finally got to sneak in as a host. So, either he had more of these stashed away, or the success of the first one made them go for it again.

He's the best host they've had in...I dunno, decades? Is that overstating it? His "Cha Cha Slide" dance turned an underfed sketch premise into a outrageously delightful bit of physical comedy.

Timothée Charalambides (cryptosicko), Monday, 4 March 2019 02:58 (seven years ago)

this was and will be the only snl ep i watch this season

you know who deserves sitewide mod privileges? (m bison), Monday, 4 March 2019 03:04 (seven years ago)

how was he never a cast member? granted there was a talent there when he was a writer, but still

you know who deserves sitewide mod privileges? (m bison), Monday, 4 March 2019 03:04 (seven years ago)

This was great died laughing at the McKinnon mulaney to have and have not sketch

Mordy, Monday, 4 March 2019 03:12 (seven years ago)

Loved Mulaney. Hated Thomas Rhett, the musical act.

banjoboy, Monday, 4 March 2019 06:37 (seven years ago)

lol yeah when he first came on I just kept getting more and more irritated

blood, loud screaming and nudity (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 4 March 2019 08:19 (seven years ago)

how was he never a cast member? granted there was a talent there when he was a writer, but still

He is a much, much better performer with a lot more stage experience than he was 11 years ago?

Here he is this week talking about his first onscreen SNL appearance: https://youtu.be/-BAcIdzPgAs

steven, soda jerk (sic), Monday, 4 March 2019 10:28 (seven years ago)

I watched 5 seconds of the musical guest singing, went NOPE, and FF'd it.

The Bodega Man sketch part with the 'man who doesn't work there but is watching soccer on tv'...omg.

Yerac, Monday, 4 March 2019 14:07 (seven years ago)

I remember when they brought him out to do a weekend update bit when he was a writer. He looked like he was 12. I agree, he probably wasn’t ready!

dan selzer, Monday, 4 March 2019 17:57 (seven years ago)

I bet he’s working on a new hour because his monologue was funnier than his entire last comedy special.

dan selzer, Monday, 4 March 2019 17:58 (seven years ago)
