Houston's George Bush International Airport has closed one of its terminals due to staffing issues.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 14 January 2019 18:04 (seven years ago)

well I guess I'm gonna buy flight insurance for our trip in April

I head to NYC on Thursday and anticipate being in line at LGA next Monday for thirty-seven hours.

FWIW I’m at a conference with 600 people who travelled from all over on Sunday and as far as I can tell not one of them had any more tsa trouble than usual.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 14 January 2019 18:11 (seven years ago)

Perma-construction at LGA is probably more problematic.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 14 January 2019 18:21 (seven years ago)

BTW, anyone ever notice that those little dog dishes you put your stuff into at TSA are actually dog dishes? Like, from PetCo and stuff? I wonder how much government money is going to pet stores.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 14 January 2019 18:22 (seven years ago)

No wonder they let vets board first

Evan, Monday, 14 January 2019 18:30 (seven years ago)

A buddy flying out of MIA yesterday said the same thing. He was at the terminal in 20 minutes.

Your sweetie-pie-coo-coo I love ya (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 14 January 2019 18:42 (seven years ago)

The thing that slows down security is never TSA, it's always the dummies that have apparently never flown before. "Oh, I have to take off my shoes? No water allowed? I can't wear this huge metal belt buckle? Who knew?"

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 14 January 2019 18:54 (seven years ago)

So I’m at @ATLairport and this may be the longest security line I have ever seen. Even growing up here, and even for a Monday morning. One passenger told me he’d been waiting over an hour and still had about 30 minutes to go. pic.twitter.com/UL7EghujQI

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 14 January 2019 18:59 (seven years ago)

Of course, who knows why.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 14 January 2019 19:01 (seven years ago)

this, like most things in america, seems damned to culminate in a shooting.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 14 January 2019 19:02 (seven years ago)

Don't be crazy, no one could ever get a gun through security.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 14 January 2019 19:04 (seven years ago)

yeah it would take ages

maura, Monday, 14 January 2019 19:25 (seven years ago)

Ah yes

Trump asks everyone to sit down rather than stand. He explains that this way they can give him standing ovations when they want, whereas if they're already standing, the media will say he didn't get any standing ovations. "It's probably better for me," he says.

Atlanta airport is a clusterfuck at the best of times LOL

suzy, Monday, 14 January 2019 19:28 (seven years ago)

In early 2002 (<6 months after 9/11) I unwittingly flew across the country and back with an X-Acto in my carry-on bag. Which, clearly, was not caught by airline security at one of their periods of highest alert just after terrorists had used box cutters to hijack airplanes. My faith in their ability to ferret out contraband isn't particularly high.

A Nugatory Excrescence (Old Lunch), Monday, 14 January 2019 19:32 (seven years ago)

the world of schools

Trump to the American Farm Bureau convention on Sen. John Kennedy: "This is a man who is totally brilliant. I don't know if you know what this means: Oxford. He went to Oxford. I'm very much into the world of schools. Oxford -- you have to be very, very smart to go to Oxford."

Maybe he's book-smart but not gut-smart, like Trump.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 14 January 2019 19:40 (seven years ago)

tbf Trump was *too* smart to go to Oxford

New Quinnipiac poll:

44. Did President Trump's recent televised address to the nation change your mind about building a wall along the border with Mexico, or not?

Yes: 2%
No: 89%

Karl Malone, Monday, 14 January 2019 19:57 (seven years ago)

Lol i wonder which way that 2% flipped?

Trϵϵship, Monday, 14 January 2019 20:01 (seven years ago)

ever wonder what happened to Laura Loomer? no? well you're gonna find out anyway: she just set up a tent outside of Nancy Pelosi's house

frogbs, Monday, 14 January 2019 20:33 (seven years ago)

xpost In the 70s?! I would maybe have expected that of Vanderbilt, but not a public university, let alone their law school.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 14 January 2019 20:43 (seven years ago)

I don’t think it was written down, yknow?

I have measured out my life in coffee shop loyalty cards (silby), Monday, 14 January 2019 20:50 (seven years ago)

UVa didn't even allow women undergrad in until the 1970s.

Yerac, Monday, 14 January 2019 20:51 (seven years ago)

Super fun, silby

Trϵϵship, Monday, 14 January 2019 20:54 (seven years ago)

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 14 January 2019 20:54 (seven years ago)

87% of republicans are for the wall supposedly

i don't know what to make of that supposed fact but it's pretty fuckin wild if it's within shouting distance of the truth

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 14 January 2019 20:56 (seven years ago)

87% of republicans should fall down dead

Frederik B, Monday, 14 January 2019 21:03 (seven years ago)

It’s less surprising than like 90% of them or whatever supporting Trump

Trϵϵship, Monday, 14 January 2019 21:03 (seven years ago)

I have to assume her protest outside twitter headquarters was a success if she’s moving on to this

I'm not surprised that many are for the wall, generally speaking. I wonder what percentage think the situation at the southern border rises to the level of national crisis and what percentage is cool with shutting down government over it.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Monday, 14 January 2019 21:08 (seven years ago)

the argument I've seen basically boils down to "Obama was for fencing in 2006, why are you hypocrites rejecting it now?"

sleeve, Monday, 14 January 2019 21:16 (seven years ago)

Fox news plays misleading footage on a loop. It gets hared all over the place.

Trϵϵship, Monday, 14 January 2019 21:16 (seven years ago)

He, the Danish socialist party is proposing a marginal tax rate of 70%. Thanks AOC, I guess :)
