fuck the wall. MEDICARE FOR ALL

reggie (qualmsley), Sunday, 13 January 2019 19:38 (seven years ago)

Oh, and the WaPo/ABC poll finds net support for declaring an emergency at -35.

— Josh Chafetz (@joshchafetz) January 13, 2019

A sign of how bad Trump is at negotiating. Declaring a national emergency would be highly unpopular, even more so than the wall itself, and would create a lot of awkward arguments within the GOP. Threatening to declare one creates an incentive for Democrats *not* to compromise. https://t.co/9nZ92heXPn

A sign of how bad Trump is at negotiating.

At this point, he's not negotiating but performing, partly because he doesn't know what else to do with the mess he's made. But unless Trump negotiates, he'll do so much damage to the government and to all the tens of millions of citizens who depend on a functioning government, that many people will die and the lives of most US citizens will be direly altered for the worse.

This is a man who declared bankruptcy four different times, after totally screwing over his lenders and business partners, but he can't just magically wipe away his mess this time.

However, Trump is against abortion, so we know he is God's Chosen Leader and this is no doubt part of God's Master Plan for The Greatest Nation on Earth.

the shutdown is just unspeakably bad and makes me so fucking mad. i haven't reached this level of angry since 2016.

Correct, except he’s probably not against abortion, he just says he is because it’s the right answer for conservatives. I’m sure they will be *shocked* when he declares that abortion is fine, post-presidency.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 14 January 2019 01:16 (seven years ago)

We've already noted the trend that every single week makes things look worse from Trump, never better. With no exceptions, afaict. Always more and more suspicious and alarming, never the opposite direction. You'd think if there was anything exculpatory or mitigating, we would have even gotten a hint of it, from the WH, from some reporter somewhere, but we haven't, which at this point implies the obvious: that he is guilty. I mean check out this thread, which further fills out the timeline in sequence:

THREAD: Has anyone noticed the very disturbing overlap between Trump’s insistence on preventing his own staff from learning about discussions with Putin at the Hamburg G20 meeting in July 2017 and how he handled initial revelations about the infamous Trump Tower meeting? 1/ https://t.co/t60jRyrhis

— Andrew S. Weiss (@andrewsweiss) January 14, 2019

The guy is just shady as hell *at best*, so it's become a matter of *how* guilty is he, and exactly what he is guilty *of.* My best guess, given everything, is that he is easily manipulated and ignorant but largely incompetent, and that while it therefore seems unlikely there was collusion per se - which implies cooperation, which implies intent - I suspect he (like his son) happily accepted offers of help, possibly ignorant of the repercussions and legal implications.

Flynn, Manafort, Roger Stone - these sorts sought out foreign aid and money and contracts and stuff. But Trump? He's a stupid bush league asshole who really stepped in it and has pretended the stink isn't there ever since.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 14 January 2019 14:24 (seven years ago)

It didn't get the attention it deserved, but @realDonaldTrump recently signed a bill into law that will empower women all over the world. @IvankaTrump was instrumental in making the #WEEEAct a priority.

Another huge success for the Trump admin!https://t.co/UGet9NpD8Z

— Ronna McDaniel (@GOPChairwoman) January 13, 2019

Just want it entered into the historical record that the Republicans came up with something called the WEEE Act and had Trump sign it.

if Trump told the translator to hand over the notes and then told the translator not to tell anybody what they talked about, wouldn't the only two people who knew that happened be Trump and the translator?

if Trump told the translator to hand over the notes and then told the translator not to tell anybody what they talked about, wouldn't the only two people who knew that happened be Trump and the translator?

Not when the State Department and the National Security Council routinely asked the translator for a copy of their notes and were informed that Trump had the only copy.
