the very real possibility of some sort of disruptive labor revolt in the TSA

TSA is not ICE. Security is often stupid and lame and frustrating, but they're just modestly paid workers doing their thing. However, as currently arranged airports can't operate without them.

But the only thing preventing govt from reopening is Democrats so clearly it is them who aren't concerned about national security

2-4 inches of snow in DC is enough to shut down the government on its own

The National Air Traffic Controllers Association has sued the federal government for forcing its members to work without pay during the government shutdown. It’s at least the third lawsuit filed by government workers since the shutdown began 21 days ago.

The air traffic controllers union is seeking a court order compelling the U.S. to account for all the wage and overtime pay to which its members are entitled and pay it. The lawsuit was filed Friday at a federal court in Washington.

As currently arranged, they're an empty theatrical performance that achieves nothing but to slow the passage of humans at transit hubs.

before I got a job at my current company 14 years ago, I was very close to being a TSA agent and got through to the final interview before I found the other job. the interviews were hard and you had to look at scans of actual bags and determine not only which bags had harmful or banned items I them, but also identify what items were harmful, and this took hours.

eventually I felt the task so impossible that I just said "fuck it" and guessed half the answers and figured "well I done fucked that up, oh well", and a week later they're all like WOW YOU DID REAL WELL ON THE EXAM, COME IN FOR AN INTERVIEW.

yeah TSA serves no legitimate purpose other than giving the occasional asshole in cop cosplay the chance to harass a Muslim or a trans person

once I questioned the sign on a fence that said it had been painted with anti-climbing paint, and my walking companion explained that it was some kind of fancy anti-friction thingy. "Hm!" I said, and attempted to climb it to find how that worked.

Turns out it's basically tar, and I spent the first twenty minutes of dinner alternately washing my hands and scrubbing them with paper in the restaurant bathroom.

As currently arranged, they're an empty theatrical performance that achieves nothing but to slow the passage of humans at transit hubs.

Sure. But short of ending the TSA, it's an empty theatrical performance that achieves nothing but to slow the passage of humans at transit hubs that you have to live with. And if they stop working then it will just be slower.

DJT Jr accused Acosta of self-owning himself by visiting a portion of the southern border, which has fencing/etc, and noting that he didn't see any evidence of mass crossing of murderous immigrants. DJT's logic was "SEE, walls work", Acosta's retort was "so you're saying the existing security already works? guess you'll have to reopen the government".
