you should watch it. shame about having that baggage going into it, but it’s the best sitcom of the 21st c imho

Finally saw this, reminded me of a more commercially-minded Peter Greenaway. Also was that crazed organ music on the soundtrack Messiaen? Olivia Colman was fantastic, she's shaping up to be this generation's Judi Dench if that's not an absurd assertion (I realise it probably is).

Huh just watched this an hour ago too, really liked it. It's nice just to have a movie with three female leads. Certainly my pick of the Best Picture nominees (though yet to see Green Book)

Funny seeing Olivia turn up as a secretary in Green Wing last night which was presumably from before she had made a name for herself.

Or at least, had it on the tv for the first time in ages. Have the box set from shortly after it was on tv for first time.
& while she is a recurring character she is a lesser part of an ensemble cast. Or something to that effect.

Colman met Mitchell & Webb when all were 18-19 yrs old at the Cambridge U. Footlights (1992-93).

This was what I was hoping Phantom Thread would be, the difference being that I actually wanted to hang around these characters. Loved the economy of the screenwriting within the lavish setting.

That’s kind of an enigmatic take

Finally saw this last night. It was ok, but overall it was underwhelming compared to Lanthimos' other films. I did like the lens choices, and belly-laughed at the dancing in the grand ball scene.

Saw it the other day. I hated the other Lanthimos movie I saw (The Lobster), but liked this quite a bit. It reminded me of Barry Lyndon a little.

Just viewed. I was enchanted until the last 5 minutes, and really wish this could have stuck the landing.

The Draughtman's Contract (likely Lanthimo's major inspiration) is a better film (though the available video transfers from 16mm aren't), but this will remain in rotation.

Really? I thought the ending was perfect! They both realized they were trapped, but were in their own separate versions of reality. After all of the harshness of the preceding story I thought it was kind of moving
