Obviously it was full of lies and completely nonsensical. But it's all about delivery. You can sell anything with the right delivery. Most people are checked out or know their side and stick to it, and a "please, think of the children" soft touch Trump plays really well. Low bar, but still - definitely did better than I expected.

They both sounded like that aunt who wants to speak at the funeral of one of your parents, and you desperately try to stop her, because it's better for everyone involved that she not speak at all, but you fail miserably and she gets up on the stage anyway and delivers a worrying speech.
