Speaking of which, Matt went on the Qanon Anonymous podcast:https://soundcloud.com/qanonanonymous/episode-19-jfk-feat-matt-christman-of-chapo-trap-house
(About halfway thru)

Back in the USSR:
The ladies discuss the latest Drake/Kanye feud, Houellebecq's pro-Trump hot take in Harper's, Hillary's Indian wedding jaunt, and the meaning behind Melania's changing hair color.
― flappy bird, Saturday, 15 December 2018 04:56 (seven years ago)
I honestly didn't think anyone stuck with red scare

Houellebecq's pro-Trump hot take in Harper's
Things I would sooner gouge out my eyes than read.

Wtf, Simon Reynolds went on there to talk about Mark Fisher?
― Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Saturday, 15 December 2018 09:09 (seven years ago)
I did listen to that episode and it wasn't bad. Mostly Simon talking.
― jmm, Saturday, 15 December 2018 13:37 (seven years ago)
neat!

I'm as suspicious of liberal identity politics as the next leftist grouch but I've never really seen what people see in "exiting the vampire castle" which doesn't really engage with pro-identity politics voices, just lots of ad hom from a trad marxist about the "petit-bourgeois", "post-structuralist", "moralizing", "mccarthyite", "'left'" throughout and, on the other hand: praise of Russell Brand.
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Monday, 17 December 2018 21:05 (seven years ago)
i think it was just an early critique of idpol from the left and therefore seems somewhat prescient for ppl sympathetic to critiques of liberal identity politics today but i never felt like beyond its historical significance it was the definitive take on the topic - and also his personal narrative lends sympathy vis-a-vis the blowback he got for the article, etc and how that relates to the contemporary debate.
― Mordy, Monday, 17 December 2018 21:09 (seven years ago)
good point.
does give me "there is nothing new under the sun" vibes when i think about the traditional class focused marxist vs eurocommunist culturalist discourse in the CPGB in the 70s.

Amazing that the Patreon continues to grow given how little of a shit they seem to give about the show.
― louise ck (milo z), Monday, 17 December 2018 23:54 (seven years ago)
vampire castle is aight but mark fisher's empathy and insight had a big impact on my life and i hate seeing his work reduced to a cudgel in twitter slapfights over cum town or whatever
― oiocha, Tuesday, 18 December 2018 03:43 (seven years ago)
it’s one of his stickier works but far from Fisher’s most interesting writing. ppl want to tear down the academy, but lives next door to the academy
catching up here, I haven’t checked out the mma doc but am interested and we should do a thread. a little less than a decade ago I’d done a fair bit of mma watching and my friend’s bf was working in the video editing trailer for ufc, going around the world but stuck in a metal box in the parking lot cutting up clips for promos. lots of weird shit and opinions on Dana White and the money
― mh, Tuesday, 18 December 2018 04:07 (seven years ago)
the SNL episode felt like listening to some people read our SNL thread aloud
― We were never Breeting Borting (President Keyes), Tuesday, 18 December 2018 14:36 (seven years ago)
I was gonna say, I was glad when they moved on from that cause it was just too depressing to even think about

lmfao will and amber incredulous at matt for saying he actually watches SNL

Been enjoying Street Fight lately quite a bit, love these dudes
― flappy bird, Thursday, 20 December 2018 19:15 (seven years ago)
i very much relate to matt's inability to stop watching SNL no matter how bad it gets
― No Smockin' (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 20 December 2018 19:19 (seven years ago)
I would pay like a good dollar for a monthly guide to the best of that month's Street Fight. it's just too much damn pod
― resident hack (Simon H.), Thursday, 20 December 2018 19:21 (seven years ago)
I get so many Patreon emails from Street Fight, I don't even read the episode descriptions anymore.

Lmao: And what we moved onto was Bernie—our indefatigable, unwavering, incorruptible Bernie! And we very nearly won, despite despicable sabotage from the DNC.

Ya focusing on the dnc's ultimately rather trivial machinations too much absolves all the ordinary schmucks who figured hilary clinton wd be a good presidential candidate lol

Yeah I'm very much team Bernie as is known but also very much never bought into the "sabotage" narrative. It's not really shocking that an upstart didn't have the backing of party insiders. I think in teh US we don't even really have a good concept of what a political party is in most democracies -- the Democratic party is WAY more up for grabs than most parties.

every time i look at my podcast app and consider listening to chapo the newest episode description is too unappealing for me to bother. last 3 times I've looked it's been an episode discussing aquaman, christmas episode/one of their dumb radio play things, talking about this bernie article with amber.
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 16 January 2019 18:31 (seven years ago)
the xmas ep surprised me by being actually funny but they need to stop doing those interminable "tabletop" eps
― resident hack (Simon H.), Wednesday, 16 January 2019 18:34 (seven years ago)
counterpoint: the latest tabletop two-parter was good not bad, actually, and i say that as someone who couldn’t sit through the previous ones

I'm definitely noticing a widespread creep lately in podcast length. Lots of folks bumping up against or even crossing the two-hour mark. personally I think one hour should be the cutoff. podcasts that exceed that almost always involve a whole lot of shambling, unfocused bullshit. I know the Chapo guys are doing something aesthetically different from him, but Chris Hayes' podcast never exceeds an hour and he digs in to some pretty cpmplicated shit (e.g. this week's episode on trade).
