1) given the reforms previously enacted, and eg Dunstan in place as SA Premier, do you think the referendum non-binding postal survey of a year ago would have been required, had the dismissal not taken place?

2) do you think that first-hand accounts of community members committing suicide during the referendum survey campaign, unable to handle the rhetoric in media and from family members after lifetimes of ostracism, abuse, and legislated social downgrading, were false flags?

i think i was misinformed about the british monarchy. i thought their position was largely ceremonial in 2018. i have no positive feelings toward them, i just don't like ppl cheering death on anyone. you'll find this is consistent across my ilx posts cf. this year's dead pool thread.

i am never afraid to admit when i don't know something. i think we have a difference of opinion on what ilx is for. i learn things here and get involved in conversations on topics that i might not be an expert in. when i asked if the royals had done anything recently to warrant people wishing death on them that was actually just a question.

i doesn't bother me that you don't like me. please use the killfile feature if you are not interested in what i have to say. i would consider it a favor to me if you would do that.

I'm a dual British/Australian citizen, and fairly up on Aus politics, but I'm not sure I understand sic's questions or the relevance of the monarchy to the marriage equality postal survey.

That said, I find it bizarre that Australia's head of state is a foreign queen. But I think the royalty actually does more damage to the UK than it does to Australia.

I'm not sure that it was meant in a legal sense. I think what people mean in describing her as a foreign monarch is that there's clearly some important sense in which she's a British in a way that she isn't a Canadian or Australian.
