Now I feel so emasculated. I'll have to give in to peer pressure and buy a TRUCK or whatever they drive in Simi Valley.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 8 September 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

Capital Letter Rock (jaxon), Friday, 9 September 2005 01:47 (twenty years ago)

I was a little confused! When you said "jaxon" I thought you were talking about "jackson" of jackson and his computer band etc. Nice to meet you both!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 9 September 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

So I'm processing this book for a German class and I notice that it is dedicated to one Nicholas Currie...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

(that author was someone I knew at college, but Nick knows him completely independently)

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

! A small world!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

I don't know Christian Kracht very well... he interviewed me in the early 90s for a German magazine called Tempo (and got Wolfgang Tillmans to take the photos), and just last year he commissioned me to write a short story for his magazine Der Freund. My tale was a sort of shaggy dog story about Holger Hiller. I wish I could read "Mesapotamia"... I hope "processing" means translating, Ned!

Momus (Momus), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

Holgertron!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 20:32 (twenty years ago)

don't be jerk, this is china (FE7), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

Last night, I was taking a shortcut through Soho on my way to the Apple Stores to pick up Percy... when I heard my name, looked over to see anime stripes dashing towards me... and there was Pink! Drinking in a pub off Carnaby St to celebrate her new trainers. Hurrah!

That was so random and unexpected - I take a different shortcut every day! - and so pleasing and happy-making!

The Brocade Fire (kate), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 07:03 (twenty years ago)

Would you be upset if I joked about doing something unpleasant to you now that you're in my city?

Haha, you beat me to it! There were so many points yesterday where I thought I'd done something or was going to go something & they all came true. One of them was seeing you Kate!

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 07:51 (twenty years ago)

It was fate or kismet or something. The randomness of London really does kick up opportunities like that! I was pleased!

The Brocade Fire (kate), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 07:55 (twenty years ago)

Gareth, again. Not surprising as we live fairly near each other - I live on the posh side of Holloway Road and he lives on the grotty side. Bumped into him at Old Street and we shared a 43 home while we agreed that 271 was much the better bus - statistics provided by London Transport prove you are less likely to be stabbed by a chip-throwing madman on the 271. I have to say, however, that the fact that Gareth was eating chips when he boarded the bus must have sent a temporary shiver running down some of the passengers' spines and, in fact, out of earshot of Gareth, I heard some drunken guy snarl "Chips!" as he stumbled up the stairs...

Raymond Douglas Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 23 September 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

"Suspect" shot on London bus
...
Police defended their shoot on-sight policy, saying Mr Lee "was acting in a manner which led us to believe he could have been a danger to others."
When questioned futher police chiefs looked shifty and said: "well, he was eating chips, just like the last guy!"

Anna (Anna), Friday, 23 September 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

I saw what he was eating last night and believe me he was far more of a danger to himself than he was to others....

Raymond Douglas Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 23 September 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

He generally is.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 23 September 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 23 September 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

Have the given The Pinefox his own column?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

i spotted loads of ilxors last night, although i suspect it might not count as either random or especially impromptu.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

i was with a friend and mimicking the action of screaming while being chased by rottweillers (which happenned to her the previous night), when carey walked by. not sure what she thought i was doing, but she waved hello

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 3 October 2005 06:07 (twenty years ago)

Alas, Miller, no.

the pinefox, Monday, 3 October 2005 06:52 (twenty years ago)

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 14 October 2005 08:18 (twenty years ago)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 14 October 2005 09:29 (twenty years ago)

Stevem in the hallway, earlier this morning, with the candlestick.

Suckling robot at a warrior rave (alix), Friday, 14 October 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

Do you two live in a game of Cluedo or something? I'd watch it Lixi. And I'd move all the lead piping out of the billiard room.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 14 October 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

Julio at Xenakis concert(s) on Sunday - therefore not especially random. But also, at same concert, mark s and mark s's sister (trying saying that Toyah Wilcox!)

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 14 October 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

stevem is following me and i'm starting to get scared.

sfxxx, Friday, 14 October 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

the fact he's writing about it on the internet is not making matters any better.

sfxxxx, Friday, 14 October 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

you were walking behind me the first time, and towards me the second time!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 14 October 2005 10:28 (twenty years ago)

Look at the obsessive detail in the above post. He's obviously keeping some kind of log.

Suckling robot at a warrior rave (alix), Friday, 14 October 2005 10:44 (twenty years ago)

Gotta fuel that marble fireplace somehow

...

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 14 October 2005 11:05 (twenty years ago)

Ally C at Buchanan Street Underground on my way home from work last night. I was very tired, and couldn't even sustain a conversation for two stops. It was nice though, I never randomly bump into anyone.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 22 October 2005 08:45 (twenty years ago)

Jena at a party last night, where a lot of people were in these half-assed costumes even though it's a full week until Halloween. I awkwardly referenced the famous wines of his motherland and he subtley made fun of me. Also trife at the bus stop in ATL several weeks ago. He had groceries, including a 2 liter of off-brand rootbeer. And a beard and well-kept sneakers!

emilys. (emilys.), Saturday, 22 October 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

i saw toby and colette at the animal collective gig last night - i was up on the balcony of the scala and they were on the floor below, so no way of saying hello

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

Hocking a loogy is the universal balcony to ground greeting.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

I saw Grimly Fiendish on his way to work today. This was not only random, it was positively spooky as I'd just been discussing something with my colleagues that I thought he might have been the person to talk to about, and I had no sooner said "I'll speak to my friend S who might know about that" than he appeared. Wandering about with his earphones in so he couldn't hear me shouting at him meaning I had to go haring round the corner to speak to him, but there nonetheless.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 28 October 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)
