whoo!

the satisfaction of knowing that things you're parting with are going to someone who was actively looking for it is pretty heartwarming too

three weeks pass...

this is what Glasgow looked like from The Campsies yesterday:

People of Glasgow and its environs. Here’s what your city looks like from above the thick fog that is currently enveloping it. Go a few miles into the Campsie Fells and the sun is warm, with views to leave you agog. pic.twitter.com/0cpQRAox9m

That's pretty cool.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 24 December 2018 23:57 (seven years ago)

We saw something similar - though not quite as pretty - driving into town from Ayrshire. Also, the frost was so thick out in the countryside, it was like it had snowed. The trees were just beautiful.

Madchen, Tuesday, 25 December 2018 00:04 (seven years ago)

When I was a wean my grandparents lived at the foot of the most westerly hill of the campsies, dumgoyne, and anecdotally it was generally more sunny compared to glasgow, "sunny dumgoyne" remains a family in-joke. So that video was gratifying to this emigrant

Just read that @AndersonRonnie passed away a couple of days ago. Such sad news, a wonderful photographer who gave us, amongst other incredible images, the Maryhill Olympics. #RIPRonnie 📷❤ pic.twitter.com/YW2Bqmig7H

"They (artists) were certainly blamed when Dennistoun, another working-class neighbourhood in Glasgow’s East End was gentrified and art-washed, with rents and house prices to match."

I must have missed when all this happened here.

The opening of Glasgow's newest club Room 2 (formerly Chambre 69) was somewhat eventful last night. Had to wait half an hour to get in at about eleven o'clock which I think is the longest I've ever waited to get in a club, not sure if they're trying to make it into the Scottish Berghain or what. Later on the fire alarm went off and we all had to stand around on the street freezing our nuts off for a whole goddamn hour. Twitch played a belter of a set after though so wasn't a total disaster

sounds classic :)

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 2 March 2019 14:58 (seven years ago)

a few of us went down about midnight but we hadn't bought tickets in advance and it was a total rammy, it was very much a 10pm "I'm in the mood to get drunk" impromptu decision to go out though so we should have known better

boxedjoy, Sunday, 3 March 2019 10:25 (seven years ago)

how was it inside? I remember going to see Shackleton and having to wash the inside of the tote bag I had been carrying cos the place was just so manky

boxedjoy, Sunday, 3 March 2019 10:26 (seven years ago)

It was fine inside except the bar staff insisted on pouring bottles and cans of beer into these plastic goblets that were an absolute liability on the dancefloor. Gotta say I don't remember Chambre 69 being that manky but that could have been booze related on my part :)

paolo, Sunday, 3 March 2019 12:03 (seven years ago)

I made a New Year resolution to go out clubbing at least once a month but three out of my last four club nights out have been disappointing. The last Numbers thing at the Art School was a bit meh and went to see EZ at Subby and that was a let down too. Oh well, got to accept that you're going to get a dud every now and again I guess...

paolo, Sunday, 3 March 2019 12:06 (seven years ago)

Anyway, we should definitely head out again sometime, I haven't got any nights out planned anytime soon but it'd be nice to catch up :)

That Radisson advert is fucking grim. I bet that the minimum wage staff get regular bollockings for not having enough fun like that bit in Office Space where the waitress gets in trouble for not having enough badges or something.

paolo, Friday, 19 July 2019 07:34 (six years ago)

G-Force died a month ago? Have to say that after the imports and soundtracks were going down because internet, the shop was losing a lot of its appeal, but they stuck around a long time. Good spot in town obviously.

two weeks pass...

two anecdotes:

The lads at my school used to wear Trespass jackets but they used to pronounce it like it was a French word even though they are made in Glasgow - Tray-Paaa.

The menu at The Grosvenor cafe sold many strange items - for example "Oxo Beef drink" (my dad used to drink this) and whatever you ordered was served on a red hot plate even if it was ice cream. The menu was very strangely worded too and we used to laugh at the descriptions like "half pizza pie portion" - you could also get "have pizza pie portion with fried egg" but one that remains seared on my brain was Calzino and, this is not a word of a lie, the description next to it said "An Italian bridie".

Funky Isolations (jed_), Saturday, 3 August 2019 19:09 (six years ago)

the first time i went to the grosvenor was 1994 and i was absolutely dumbfounded by the idea that i could get a 'burger' for less than a pound. i ordered it. and then i understood.

I'm in Glasgow for the first time 5th to the 9th September with me Dad. We like whisky, Ivor Cutler and Alasdair Gray. I think he's hoping to see a bit of heritage stuff as his family's originally from Glasgow and go way back.

frame casual (dog latin), Wednesday, 28 August 2019 07:53 (six years ago)

DL, Hillhead Tube Station, in the West End of Glasgow, has a great mural-map of the area by Alasdair Gray, worth a look if you're passing by.

The Marzaroli photos always feel (to me) much older than they actually are - the sixties as the thirties.

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 28 August 2019 08:08 (six years ago)

The 70s in Glasgow looks older than the 70s too.
