Ross seemed fine, if overeager and a little too earnest sometimes, and maybe that's saying something about how jaded and in-clubby ILX can be or seem, but let's not pretend he wouldn't have been clowned much harder by old ILX

I mean if you're seeing someone on a lot of threads too and they're kind of rubbing you the wrong way, then you can say something about it, just so long as it isn't attacking them in a mean spirited sort of way. I know he wasn't being actively offensive or mean, but it's nothing much more than some of the stuff LJ got sonned for bitd isn't it? Idk I can sense some narcissism of small differences and it feels kind of shitty, like talking behind someone's back, and worse if he's reading and feeling even shittier about himself, but it's not some brutal character assassination, it's more like ribbing for earnestness, and a lot of ILXors have been in his shoes. I think gr8080 has mentioned this in some other thread, how long it took to become accustomed and welcome. Treeship was kind of Ross. Until we beat the goodwill out of him lol

I assume and hope his pulling away from ILX is part of that ongoing sorting-things-out that he seemed to be doing. Walking away from here is usually a good sign re: IRL life.)

Ross isn’t on trial and no one should be made to feel guilty for “over earnestness” or whatever, that stupid fucking buzzword I only hear on this website. The instances sic describes sound like a different story but still—the past is the past and best of luck to Ross.

i remember at least one of these incidents. i don't remember it playing out in terms quite as black and white as that, but it was definitely an awkward situation to put it mildly. the obvious thing is that some of us know that he was going through a really rough time and struggling with some things. that doesn't give him carte blanche to attack others without reason, or for others to not feel hurt or threatened by what he said, of course. but, it does complicate things quite a bit. it's hard to watch people struggle and then unnecessarily lash out, and want to defend them but know you shouldn't. it's hard to know what to do. and then when he would turn around and apologize a few minutes later and hope that everyone would just move on, i mean, how do you react to that.

anyway, i know the overly diplomatic thing is also annoying in a different way, but it's always worth keeping in mind that other people are always, always going through more shit than they let on (no matter how much they let on).

anyway as for this part, if that actually happened that must have been really frustrating to deal with at the time. i don't read every single ilx thread (just 99% of them) but i don't remember that, but i also don't doubt that someone did it and was an ass about it. but hopefully you don't feel like everyone was feeling that way. my vibe at the time was definitely *conflicted*

I wouldn't characterise him as "bad" or "hated". It seems he was having a bad time and Karl and sic have explained upthread why it might be a good idea for him to take some time out, and for others to be mindful that irl he might be dealing with some shit that nobody knows about. I don't think there's really any need to carry this on further.

He was an asshole and downright mean to people. Come on. I don’t read ILX regularly and even I read enough to know that he was unwell and it resulted in abusive behavior towards posters.

I do hope he gets the help he needs but you are all trying to be way too nice about this.

I shouldn’t have said he was an asshole but he often did exhibit assholish behavior and threw tantrums in a worryingly attention-seeking and disruptive way.

I always assumed a lot of shady behaviour went on on the "mystery" board which whatever. I feel like the only drama i ever recently saw was the katherine thing and I hope she comes back or maybe I just don't read those threads. The first time I ever met tombot he kicked my bf hard in the shins but I think I got over it.

Getting mad at people for being sincerely mean and offensive or like, swindling people in real is different than bitching that specific people post too much or are too try hard, that's just kind of dipshitty.

The ross thing was exactly as sic says, it would be like a day of blando pleasantries and then suddenly he would decide that whichever random innocuous bystander had insulted his family name or whatever and blow up and call them a “pedo” or “tard” and threaten to track them down & have their legs broken &c. Then he’d jump over to some sharing thread and say “hey guys (bystander) is making me have to leave ilx forever NOBODY TRY AND STOP ME” and everyone would be like “oh nooo we would miss all of these very cool and normal posts please stay”, then the next day he’d usually apologise to the person, then repeat. This was pretty much a weekly and later nightly thing for a few months although it seems to have passed a lot of ppl by, but it made things tiresome & unpleasant for a while. & I think enough ppl calling him out on it rather than pretending it wasn’t happening probably was what led to him cutting that shit out, & he was fine after that. He’s p well liked on here, it was just the behaviour that was unacceptable

Wow I didn’t know it was that bad. I remember some stuff with him deciding he didn’t like homeless people anymore after getting stabbed, or something.

Wins - thank you. That is exactly what happened and what I saw. Tbh I’m surprised that ppl who seem to be way more involved on ILX than I am these days seemed to not have seen any of that but it happened repeatedly for months iris. He was abusive and manipulative and when anyone tried to offer even the nicest bit of advice he would lose his shit. I had the feeling substances were often involved in the outbursts but that doesn’t make it OK.

I couldn’t tell if lamp meant bad sick or like 80s cool sick tbh. Drama is bad but this isn’t drama imo - it’s calling out people for basic behavior that is not acceptable.
