LOL no votes for the future King and his consort.
― ROCK MUSIC (Tom D.), Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:10 (seven years ago)
... I mean, the one after Charles the Chump.
Meghan was always going to win this, surprised at how close it was.Well done you two weirdos voting for Andrew.
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:12 (seven years ago)
I like how Liz's three sons have grown up to exemplify three distinct strands of overpriviledged dickholery - pompous windbag, sleazy moron and clueless imbecile.
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:17 (seven years ago)
that there was no option for: 'drag this lot into a dingy cellar for summary execution by machine gun fire' was the major failing of this poll.
― calzino, Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:34 (seven years ago)
i didn't vote but charles seems less bad than lots of the others idk
the worst one is zara phillips for winning SPOTY that one time
― imago, Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:48 (seven years ago)
so you missed that charming interaction where Charles answered "I don't think so" when an Asian woman from Manchester replied that she was from Manchester. Heydrich was probably less bad than Himmler because he was part-Jewish and could play the violin etc...
― calzino, Saturday, 17 November 2018 00:57 (seven years ago)
After being introduced to the prince, she says he asked where she was from. When she replied "Manchester", he reportedly quipped "Well, you don't look like it", before laughing and walking away.
that was it.

― calzino, Saturday, 17 November 2018 01:21 (seven years ago)
Charles is one of the worst tbh.

have these people done anything bad enough to warrant wishing death on them?
they are royals
they don't have any power.
tell that to Gough Whitlam and please never post in any politics thread again
― Bing The Mighty Seat (sic), Saturday, 17 November 2018 08:40 (seven years ago)
I do find something kind of admirable about Princess Anne's palpable contempt for the general public, and her disinclination to make any attempt to disguise this.
― soref, Saturday, 17 November 2018 08:58 (seven years ago)
I think it is Anne I met. She came to my university library and spoke to the student sitting next to me. The conversation, verbatim, was :
Anne: “ So why do you come here”Student: “this is where the books are”Anne: “Jolly good”
...and wandered off.

― A is for (Aimless), Saturday, 17 November 2018 17:46 (seven years ago)
I might have voted for Lizzy? I've gone soft in my old age. Also she looks like my Nan a bit these days. Anne was pretty fab and Meghan seems ok.
sidebar: who are the 3 sociopaths that voted for Philip tho, jfc

Unchill, sic.
Woman at this coffee shop (in america) has this stylish, slouchy kind of bag that has an all over print of a photo of a young elizabeth ii.

― Trϵϵship, Monday, 17 December 2018 14:45 (seven years ago)
treesh, two-part question:
1) given the reforms previously enacted, and eg Dunstan in place as SA Premier, do you think the referendum non-binding postal survey of a year ago would have been required, had the dismissal not taken place?
2) do you think that first-hand accounts of community members committing suicide during the referendum survey campaign, unable to handle the rhetoric in media and from family members after lifetimes of ostracism, abuse, and legislated social downgrading, were false flags?
― sans lep (sic), Saturday, 5 January 2019 01:00 (seven years ago)
i think i was misinformed about the british monarchy. i thought their position was largely ceremonial in 2018. i have no positive feelings toward them, i just don't like ppl cheering death on anyone. you'll find this is consistent across my ilx posts cf. this year's dead pool thread.
― Trϵϵship, Saturday, 5 January 2019 01:31 (seven years ago)
i am never afraid to admit when i don't know something. i think we have a difference of opinion on what ilx is for. i learn things here and get involved in conversations on topics that i might not be an expert in. when i asked if the royals had done anything recently to warrant people wishing death on them that was actually just a question.
i doesn't bother me that you don't like me. please use the killfile feature if you are not interested in what i have to say. i would consider it a favor to me if you would do that.

― calzino, Saturday, 5 January 2019 10:50 (seven years ago)
I'm a dual British/Australian citizen, and fairly up on Aus politics, but I'm not sure I understand sic's questions or the relevance of the monarchy to the marriage equality postal survey.
That said, I find it bizarre that Australia's head of state is a foreign queen. But I think the royalty actually does more damage to the UK than it does to Australia.
― Zelda Zonk, Saturday, 5 January 2019 11:08 (seven years ago)
Lol calzino
― Trϵϵship, Saturday, 5 January 2019 14:13 (seven years ago)
Is she not simultaneously the Queen of Australia, Canada, the UK, etc., and thus never foreign in any of her dominions?
― Locked in silent monologue, in silent scream (Sund4r), Saturday, 5 January 2019 15:08 (seven years ago)
Something like that.
― Never Turn Your Back On Virginia Woolf (Tom D.), Saturday, 5 January 2019 15:42 (seven years ago)
I'm not sure that it was meant in a legal sense. I think what people mean in describing her as a foreign monarch is that there's clearly some important sense in which she's a British in a way that she isn't a Canadian or Australian.
― jmm, Saturday, 5 January 2019 15:58 (seven years ago)
Yeah, probably the fact that she was born there and resides there. I do enjoy imagining Lizzy simultaneously hovering over all these countries, presiding wisely, defending the faith.

How much does this show the crown have to do with American simpletons being all yass queen princess these daysI know it’s always been a thing but I feel like a week since these inbred fucks were mainly being talked about for covering up sex crimes suddenly all these people being HERE FOR Anne being mildly rude to a different sex criminal must be linked to that, yes?

Is Edward still alive, I feel like I haven't seen or heard about him in decades. I actually had a conversation with someone recently who (claimed) not only had never heard of him but didn't believe he existed - a British person I hasten to add.

I only know about Edward v vaguely cause my granny used to go on about how he was a closet case. Couldn’t pick him out of a lineup tho, same goes for most of these and I’m p sure that’s not unusual
