The Good Place on NBC

The actress who plays Eleanor's mom first played the role in the flashbacks to Eleanor's childhood. So that's why she's so young. I think.

You play Kristen Bell’s mother on The Good Place, and you return for Thursday’s episode. How did that role first come about, and did you discuss the age difference?
I (first) got a call from my agent, “You got an offer to play Kristen Bell’s mother.” I was like, “Well, here it is. Here’s that phone call where you are officially an older actress.” Then she said, “No, no, wait. It’s to play the mother of her character in flashback.” Initially, it started off as playing the mother of a little girl. I thought, “Okay, that makes more sense,” because Kristen Bell and I are not that far apart in age. Look, don’t get it twisted. I know I’m older than her, but I’m not old enough to be her mother.

Then when they said, “We’d like you to come back and work with Kristen,” there was a conversation, “Well, how is that going to work?” Like, “What are you going to look like?” They were like, “We don’t want to do aging makeup on you. That’s not something we want to do.” They came up with a brilliant idea to just Real Housewives her and to make her look really pulled and surgeried. We put in extensions. We gave me a really insane tan. Pulled my face up with tape. Wore really crazy makeup, really intense, Real Housewives-ish makeup.

they didn't really appear to do that to her though. she looked exactly the same as she does on American Horror Story.

Honestly never expected one of the best shows on TV would feature Ted Danson channeling Matt Smith, but here we are.

Via the podcast today, I learned the fight sequence was coordinated by the same guy who did all the work for the Bourne films (including the building jumping one in Morocco).

Oh, that's okay, I guess. Was looking forward to my episode today...

after next week it's off again until January, then the last three episodes run b2b with new Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Office repeats, presumably from the Schur era

That's.... usually not a good sign for a show, no? Burning off episodes like that? I know it hasn't been renewed for S4 yet, but that doesn't make me feel good about the future.

best thing that could happen to this show would be to go out on top. would be great if they wrapped after another season... or this one.

On WTF Kristen was talking about Schur has had the whole storyline mapped out in his head from day 1. I thought she said it was a 5 season plan, but maybe I'm conflating it with something else.

Sitting on a mere three remaining episodes so that you can program a night around three shows by the same bloke, one of which you've just rescued from the network that cancelled it, does not indicate a lack of faith in that bloke, imo.

(One does wonder what the plan is after the third week, though.)

Ha, it's fine, clearly I just misread. I just don't want one of the few new sitcoms I still watch to disappear just yet.

Everything about that episode was fantastic. D'Arcy Carden is a national treasure.

it's hard to believe that this show continues to get better with almost every episode.

I was kind of hoping that they'd discover no one had EVER gotten into the Good Place.

This was a great episode. A brilliant performance from D'Arcy Carden. It really connected in the way that the best of the episodes did.

Yeah, that was some kind of high spot.

Such a genius episode, and you could tell Carden was really having fun with the Jason impression.

So if they're finally in the real Good Place is it all going to be based on perceptions of idyllic society from 500 years ago? Hope so!
