you don't realise how huge an impact it makes, finding yourself looking for a place to go at finishing time to carry on drinking and dancing only ends in disaster. I'd be more inclined to head home at 5/6am after clubbing all night, whereas if I'm out at 3am I'm easily tempted to head off to an afters and stay up til the next lunchtime

I was talking to Twitch about this and non Glasgow and esp non U.K. people are always amazed by the Glasgow after party scenario.

the glasgow afterparty-at-a-flat scenario is taken for granted as an expected waypoint in the evening ime. and also ime it gets very Real very quickly

we need to have a chat!
We do! I haven't been out much lately cos I just haven't seen that many nights that I'm interested in. Was at the Numbers thing at the art school last week and that was disappointing. I'm tempted by Objekt next week and Gesloten Cirkel later in the month though
― paolo, Thursday, 8 November 2018 19:58 (seven years ago)
How's things with you anyway?
('you' being boxedjoy)
― paolo, Thursday, 8 November 2018 19:59 (seven years ago)
Why was the numbers thing disappointing?
― brokenshire (jed_), Thursday, 8 November 2018 21:21 (seven years ago)
Just wasn't really feeling any of the DJs/live acts really. Perko was the first DJ on in the Vic Bar and was a competent enough warmer upper but nothing special. I've heard a few Klein tunes and been into them so was looking forward to her live set, it was OK but would have been better as home listening.
I know Batu's been making a bit of a name for himself recently but again his DJ set was OK but nothing special. Giant Swan and Helena Hauff banged out a bunch of big room industrial/acid techno, maybe I just wasn't in the mood but not really feeling it. Also it was crowded as fuck (only to be expected for a Numbers night really) and the fire alarm went off for about ten minutes early in the night so we all just stood around with the music off. Meh

God I sound like a moany old bastard. I'm not even that old :)

Spencer is still the name I get most excited about seeing on a Numbers flyer these days
― boxedjoy, Friday, 9 November 2018 10:39 (seven years ago)
when is Gesloten Cirkel? my pal Natalie is obsessed
― boxedjoy, Friday, 9 November 2018 10:40 (seven years ago)
Saturday 1st December at La Cheetah, you want to go? I'm a wee bit obsessed myself. Submit X is one of the best techno albums in I don't know how long
― paolo, Friday, 9 November 2018 11:24 (seven years ago)
No, it does sound quite shit.

Great song - love the RM Hubbert / Aidan Moffat album too.
Fun fact - that’s my friend Chris in that video.

Aye, the new one is excellent. Excited to see them play in December.

you're gonna have to colour me out from Gesloten Cirkel now, I have work all weekend and it's looking like a challenging weekend in work, the kind that doesn't lend itself to drinking and dancing til 3am :(
I'm really glad the CCA is open again - I was in on Saturday night for a bit and it's good to have somewhere in a weekend that isn't a struggle to get a seat in
― boxedjoy, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 10:15 (seven years ago)
Ah boo, hope your weekend goes OK, we should definitely catch up sometime. Good to hear the CCA's open again

is exchanging (non-shit) CDs for money something that can still happen in the world, specifically in this city? Or are music shops so deluged by the damn things that they just do *Munch-Scream* when you show up?

this is what Glasgow looked like from The Campsies yesterday:
People of Glasgow and its environs. Here’s what your city looks like from above the thick fog that is currently enveloping it. Go a few miles into the Campsie Fells and the sun is warm, with views to leave you agog. pic.twitter.com/0cpQRAox9m— Iain Cameron (@theiaincameron) December 23, 2018

We saw something similar - though not quite as pretty - driving into town from Ayrshire. Also, the frost was so thick out in the countryside, it was like it had snowed. The trees were just beautiful.
― Madchen, Tuesday, 25 December 2018 00:04 (seven years ago)
When I was a wean my grandparents lived at the foot of the most westerly hill of the campsies, dumgoyne, and anecdotally it was generally more sunny compared to glasgow, "sunny dumgoyne" remains a family in-joke. So that video was gratifying to this emigrant

"They (artists) were certainly blamed when Dennistoun, another working-class neighbourhood in Glasgow’s East End was gentrified and art-washed, with rents and house prices to match."
I must have missed when all this happened here.

The opening of Glasgow's newest club Room 2 (formerly Chambre 69) was somewhat eventful last night. Had to wait half an hour to get in at about eleven o'clock which I think is the longest I've ever waited to get in a club, not sure if they're trying to make it into the Scottish Berghain or what. Later on the fire alarm went off and we all had to stand around on the street freezing our nuts off for a whole goddamn hour. Twitch played a belter of a set after though so wasn't a total disaster
― paolo, Saturday, 2 March 2019 14:37 (seven years ago)
sounds classic :)
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 2 March 2019 14:58 (seven years ago)
a few of us went down about midnight but we hadn't bought tickets in advance and it was a total rammy, it was very much a 10pm "I'm in the mood to get drunk" impromptu decision to go out though so we should have known better
― boxedjoy, Sunday, 3 March 2019 10:25 (seven years ago)
how was it inside? I remember going to see Shackleton and having to wash the inside of the tote bag I had been carrying cos the place was just so manky
― boxedjoy, Sunday, 3 March 2019 10:26 (seven years ago)
It was fine inside except the bar staff insisted on pouring bottles and cans of beer into these plastic goblets that were an absolute liability on the dancefloor. Gotta say I don't remember Chambre 69 being that manky but that could have been booze related on my part :)
― paolo, Sunday, 3 March 2019 12:03 (seven years ago)
I made a New Year resolution to go out clubbing at least once a month but three out of my last four club nights out have been disappointing. The last Numbers thing at the Art School was a bit meh and went to see EZ at Subby and that was a let down too. Oh well, got to accept that you're going to get a dud every now and again I guess...
― paolo, Sunday, 3 March 2019 12:06 (seven years ago)
Anyway, we should definitely head out again sometime, I haven't got any nights out planned anytime soon but it'd be nice to catch up :)
