i just deactivated my account. the site really caters to the bad, dumb bit of my brain and just feeds me rage. it's the first social media thing i ever ended up actively hooked on and I'm going to try and read during the times i would have reached for my phone

I admit I'm addicted to Twitter, but I do think you can manipulate your user experience there to be something you like

that's quite possible but the addiction to a website/app is something i find sufficiently deleterious or alarming regardless of the experience with the thing itself.

yea i've been halfheartedly trying to quit for a while.. internet is kind of awkward without twitter though, it's weird like, going to websites

ive been thinking about deactivating for a while. it's a miserable place where people act small and petty, sanctimonious, unreflective, uncharitable. there are things about it that work but it also brings out terrible qualities in people. every time i go on it i feel irritated by what i see.

after 8 years I still don't "get" twitter and that's probably a good thing. it seems like either opinions4u or 'look how I zinged this famous/semifamous person' but I have zero confidence in the accuracy of that appraisal

oh and then there's weird twitter but I never found one account I really jived with there either

twitter became funner when i did a cull of ppl i followed and created lists for lols and basketballs

Arts/science/professional/straightlaced twitter can be great of course. Sports too but how you filter your feed into something digestible and good I have no idea

My boss has a two-letter Twitter handle. He tries not to get too smug about it.

People with short Twitter names get loads of junk and misdirected @ mentions so it's not such a great thing

Good for you. I actually deleted Twitter from my phone yesterday morning for similar reasons. I'm looking at it as a hiatus rather than a permanent break, but I need to get out of the habit. I'm using Nuzzle to catch up with all the articles that people are tweeting about, without actually seeing the tweets.

I accidentally locked myself out of my twitter account and can't be bothered going through the rigmarole of getting back into it so that's one way to kick it

Twitter & Reddit are both really shitty in general but you can definitely curate it into something good if you follow the right accounts/subs. coincidentally basketball Twitter and basketball Reddit are both awesome

there should be a term for big accounts where 90% of their tweets are them quote tweeting rando haters in their replies? have unfollowed so many otherwise good accounts for this. prob most regrettable is tressie maccotam. most recently celeb chef Kenji Lopez. it's like a mania imo
