Are they cold brewing their ice coffee? And do you mean that you're making regular coffee and then cooling it for iced coffee or are you referring to iced coffee?
The main reasons you are not getting the same "boost" would be either that you're not using enough beans/grinds or that your water temperature is not proper -- could be too hot or too cold. But if they're cold brewing and you're hot brewing it's going to seem different no matter what.

Also you could ask them (when it's not busy) how they do their coffee. I am sure they will love to tell you.
― Yerac, Monday, 29 October 2018 19:04 (seven years ago)
I fucked with coffee ice cubes for a bit a few years ago when my girlfriend at the time worked at a coffeeshop. I didn't dig it, too much caffeine. I grind at home but literally have not changed the settings in nearly two years and have no idea what they're set at. I boil water and pour immediately for the "bloom," then wait a minute and pour the rest. too much too fast?
xp no the iced coffee I get from them isn't cold brew. I can't drink cold brew, I think I'm allergic to it because every time I've had it my throat has closed up. I'm not exactly sure what their iced coffee process is, I've asked before, but afaik they just make iced coffee. yeah I will ask them tomorrow, a lot of my friends work there, I just keep forgetting.
― flappy bird, Monday, 29 October 2018 19:06 (seven years ago)
The one coffee place I worked in Brooklyn ages ago used to just use the coffee from the night before as the next day's ice coffee.

mf'er
wait you can replace the rubber plunger on an aeropress O_O
― gbx, Monday, 29 October 2018 22:36 (seven years ago)
Yeah, I think it was tracer that notified me of it when I was complaining about the seal wearing away on both my aeropresses (I am glad I kept them instead of tossing). Easy to order online, I think I got generic ones and they are totally fine.

have any of you tried those reusable chemex filters made out of stainless steel or titanium? how do they compare to the paper filters?
― marcos, Thursday, 8 November 2018 15:33 (seven years ago)
Just saw one of those the other day. Looks cool. The one I saw was a really fine mesh like my steel Aeropress filter. I also had a similar tea filter which was a pain to clean - that would be my main concern: Little grounds getting caught. I think tea is harder to rinse out than coffee, though.
― beard papa, Thursday, 8 November 2018 15:54 (seven years ago)
yea that was my concern too, is it gonna have oily buildup that will be impossible to clean. i guess my moka pot has that & i don't really care but the muddiness is part of the moka pot appeal, w/ chemex i want it to be really clean coffee
― marcos, Thursday, 8 November 2018 16:45 (seven years ago)
I'd been using cloth for pour over and recently got cloth basket filters too. I think the company for the latter is "coffee sock". I like!
― maffew12, Thursday, 8 November 2018 16:49 (seven years ago)
I was looking a small cold brew pitcher online but then just thought maybe I can use my french press (fill with water and then scatter grounds on top) and then plunge in the morning. Has anyone tried this?
― Yerac, Tuesday, 20 November 2018 12:54 (seven years ago)
Nevermind, I see that there are many videos about this online. Am going to try for tomorrow.
― Yerac, Tuesday, 20 November 2018 12:55 (seven years ago)

trying out having only one cup of coffee per day and then carrying around a thermos of green tea for the rest of the day’s caffeination. pretty nice

drinking pretty much exclusively tim horton's double doubles these days.
there's a 3rd wave coffee shop doing the pour over right nearby but it's just too far and too slow to go to on my morning break.

iced coffee batch was weak at my spot this morning so they made me an iced americano. haven't had one in a while. not even finished yet and feel dangerously 'jacked' - what's the caffeine level in an iced americano vs. an iced coffee? their iced coffee is p strong fwiw
― flappy bird, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 19:30 (seven years ago)
in other words should i finish this americano? am i feeling placebo jacked?
how many shots
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 19:31 (seven years ago)
finish it baby
― macropuente (map), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 19:31 (seven years ago)

depends on how the iced coffee is made. cold brew is less caffeine per volume than americanos and french press generally
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 19:38 (seven years ago)
Finish it and then clean something.
I had ordered the Coffee Bean Direct Penny Pinchers (dark roast) 5lb bag for ~$30 to try. It's pretty good for the price point!
― Yerac, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 19:39 (seven years ago)
i've had a few hyperjacked days recently (drinking coffee less so when it's strong it destroys me) and i can say i wish someone had told me "you don't need to finish drinking it" on a few occasions
i wouldn't have listened anyway but yes you don't have to finish it, being overjacked is not a pleasant feeling imo and it def has the opposite of intended effect (ie so jittery i can't be productive)
― teen heartthrob Pacey Winger (Will M.), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 19:40 (seven years ago)
that needed punctuation. (i am) drinking coffee less (these days), so when it is strong, it destroys me
yeah I hate being too jacked on caffeine it blows
@jim the iced coffee is not cold brew. i think i'm allergic to cold brew - whenever i've had it, i get wheezy.
― flappy bird, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 19:43 (seven years ago)
hmm, intriguing
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 19:50 (seven years ago)
or confusing

this is me talking out out of my ass but maybe cold brew makes you wheeze because you have a mild caffeine allergy and cold brew has more caffeine than regular ice coffee and the coldness exacerbates the irritation/constriction in your lungs. I have asthma and cold shifts can make me wheezy.
― Yerac, Monday, 24 December 2018 21:28 (seven years ago)
had some starbucks with baileys and cream in it for the office xmas eve coffee morning
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Monday, 24 December 2018 21:40 (seven years ago)
xp that's possible, I used to drink 4 shots over ice no problem though, only switched to large iced black coffee ~3 years ago, never had the wheeze with coke or Pepsi or mountain dew etc. when I was a kid. I'm def allergic to alcohol though, a corona makes me wheezy
― flappy bird, Monday, 24 December 2018 23:50 (seven years ago)
got some single origin yirgacheffe coffee for christmas that had blueberry as a tasting note, and holy shit it actually does smell like blueberries. less noticeable on taste, but kind of a fun novelty.
― circles, Sunday, 6 January 2019 18:32 (seven years ago)
yea i like african coffees, often you get notes of berries, but also citrus and black tea. very good coffee to have done via pour over or french press imo
the coffee i will be drinking this morning to help me cope with 3 hours sleep will be a double double from tim horton's ofc
