I think that is a decent/low salary for an SNL cast member and not obscene. I assume if you are in bonus region you are getting perks. I mean most of these people are unknowns when they start. Also that ring, whatever. Been to the diamond district?
― Yerac, Saturday, 20 October 2018 03:29 (seven years ago)
Also they can be doing other stuff the other weeks of the year (and are highly likely to, given their newfound name recognition).
― (I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Beer (Ye Mad Puffin), Saturday, 20 October 2018 03:54 (seven years ago)
I remember liking that Late for School sketch when it aired. It wasn't funny, it was sad and kind of scary. Good for Luke.
― flappy bird, Saturday, 20 October 2018 04:38 (seven years ago)
I assumed the sketch was auto-biographical. It was Nulls way of saying sorry for having been an asshole at the start, which was also why nobody gave him any material. Or someone elses way of explaining to Null why nobody ever gave him any material. Anyway there are few things on tv as sad as when something like Luke Null happens, and every week he pops up for two seconds and reminds you 'oh, yeah, that guy's career is over...'
― Frederik B, Saturday, 20 October 2018 12:52 (seven years ago)
I think Lorne has always seen the show as hanging by a string. Keeping costs super low has probably kept it on the air so long. But yeah there could be a duck load more development put into the writing.
― President Keyes, Saturday, 20 October 2018 23:09 (seven years ago)
Although she did professionally well after SNL, Jane Curtin never received the appreciation she deserves. She was as precise as Aykroyd, more talented than Belushi. https://t.co/7TJVrmqVwz— Dennis Perrin (@DennisThePerrin) October 19, 2018

as beloved as Belushi remains, what a selfish trainwreck

"Political Musical" is good, too. "Midterm Ad" though -just awful
― flappy bird, Sunday, 4 November 2018 05:36 (seven years ago)
the best part of the midterm ad was the cat rolling its eyes
― Dan S, Sunday, 4 November 2018 06:19 (seven years ago)
This was a pretty good episode ( the music guest though? lol). Loved teacher fell down and the benihana.

why are these people telling spectacularly unfunny jokes in unfunny skits unable to stop laughing at their own unfunny jokes in their unfunny skits

― Sing The Mighty Beat (sic), Monday, 5 November 2018 00:13 (seven years ago)
There hasn't been a cast member since Jimmy Fallon that has made me question the show as much as Pete Davidson. I just don't get him. He's terrible in skits, and they just have him on to talk about himself. Is that funny? No, it's not funny. For a while I want to say they did this with Leslie Jones, too, who was also not funny when she did it (and is also not funny in skits, iirc.)
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 5 November 2018 13:10 (seven years ago)
I feel the same way, but I think back to when it was clear to me that Fallon was manifestly terrible and yet he was robably the most popular cast member for awhile and people still watch his show even after the Trump debacle. (OTOH I have a friend who was an itern on the show back in the day and she said that Fallon and Fey were the only cast members who even acknowledged the existence of crew/staff)
― President Keyes, Monday, 5 November 2018 14:23 (seven years ago)
of any celebrity I ever interviewed Fallon was the nicest and most down to earth
― Greta Van Fleek (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 5 November 2018 16:08 (seven years ago)
agreed on Pete Davidson - hard to think of someone who is so uncharismatic and brings so little to the table. the navy seal joke is getting a lot of heat from the right wing, apparently NBC apologized? if he gets cut loose (doubt it), i suspect it'd be the final straw rather than the joke alone. i mean, Lorne clearly likes him/has a soft spot for him. remember when he was allowed to take a hiatus from the show to go to rehab for smoking weed? (...and then go on weekend update to talk about it.... ugh.....)
― flappy bird, Monday, 5 November 2018 17:52 (seven years ago)
yeah I'm sure it was for smoking weed
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Monday, 5 November 2018 17:59 (seven years ago)
I didn't get the appeal of Pete Davidson until I saw him in that netflix romcom. I like his weekend update monologues but never knew what he really did on the show. Maybe he's a strong writer? I give a shit about his eyepatch joke.
― Yerac, Monday, 5 November 2018 18:03 (seven years ago)
right, one would think so, but Lorne letting someone back on the show after going to rehab for hard drugs seems... insane? especially when it's PD. idfk. he definitely is entering a Chevy Chase sorta phase where the antics outside the show are getting more press
xp
― flappy bird, Monday, 5 November 2018 18:04 (seven years ago)
an eyepatch joke could be good but this, there was nothing there. just like all of his Weekend Update monologues

cosigning matt on fallon; my experience with him in person is that he's genuinely one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. not funny, but quite a nice guy.
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 5 November 2018 20:45 (seven years ago)
yea I've never heard a bad word about him, I'm not really a fan but I'm happy he's been successful. (see also: Adam Sandler)

i wouldn't doubt it has a lot to do with his rise above his talent level in the industry, just being nice and polite to ppl especially ppl on their way up

it's a funny line delivered by an unfunny cast member. don't get really get Davidson's appeal, but all the pearl-clutching chuds on social media can die in a fucking fire.

I really loved that House Hunters video.
― Yerac, Monday, 12 November 2018 12:45 (seven years ago)
That was the only thing I liked. And the hip hop video about respect and consent. Otherwise a pretty dire episode, and I’m generally pretty forgiving.
― dan selzer, Monday, 12 November 2018 14:31 (seven years ago)
Oh yeah I forgot about the hip hop video. That was good too. Agree with the direness of the rest of it.

Crenshaw is a piece of shit. Reading written jokes from a cue card won't change the reasons he was endorsed by, like, the TX Tea Party. Never forget *that*.

other favorite thing was Cecily's performance as the white house intern during weekend update. She's so underrated.
