I think I have trouble getting my head around the idea that the nebulous and largely non-musical quality of 'authenticity' is an invalid (and possibly offensive) metric for evaluation except when it is applied to musicians who themselves value this invalid metric (or perhaps only when they are working in a musical style that somehow as a whole nebulously places great importance on it, as opposed to pop, whose stars are presumably all completely upfront about the fakeness of the love songs that they sing to adoring young audiences). That said, talking about music is more fun than talking about strawmen so I'll note that "Highway Tune" (lyrics posted above) is one that I actually like.

as a martian, it still amazes me that ppl seem to think malfeasors can’t be ACTUALLY “politically aware and active” and ALSO sometimes be victimizers, cruel, hypocritical, abusive, or criminal. ppl are often terrible. and weak. or sick. one likes to imagine the truly informed, those who BELIEVE, would never act against their stated objectives.

but they sometimes do. because there’s lot’s of emotions controlling a lot of other instructions.

(as a parent of hyper emotive 12 y/o, i’ve had a lot of thinking lately about the actual meaning of language, and the actual intent of action- it’s not shocking that im getting persuaded that humans don’t align either of them very well).
