i picked up a shitty headphone jack/lightning splitter at Five Below. if it lasts a year I'll be happy with it.

i've emailed him about the finder, icloud (i don't use this one, i'm not insane), quality control, and the mac being abandonware. he never replies.

that's an iphone 6 on the left. you can imagine it full screen, touch id or whatever. great phone! would buy!

I had completely forgotten that the iPod Touch existed but, of course... it's the only iPod that they make any more and it's basically a thinner, lighter iPhone SE (sans GPS, NFC, voice/SMS capability obv). I'm sticking with the SE through to late 2019 at least.

New MacBook Air: retina screen, fuck-all ports, headphone on the wrong side. Audience cheering like announcements of yore. Very different feel from the po-faced iPhone events
(Love these daytime events)

NEWWWWWWWWW mac miniiiiiiii
― stet, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 14:27 (seven years ago)
Wow, a LOT better price than I was expecting, and a nice improvement in general. Will likely order. (Especially given tariff murmurings.)
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 14:36 (seven years ago)
Still a price jump though, huh. God stop talking about fucking Apple Stores I have meetings to get to
― stet, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 14:40 (seven years ago)
It's a jump but the rumors were indicating some crazy massive jump that was having me rethink a bit. But this is fine from where I sit, at least.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 14:41 (seven years ago)
Really want a new iPad mini so glad to see it on screen. They usually silently kill old ones
― stet, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 14:44 (seven years ago)
Although that new regular size looks megA
― stet, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 14:46 (seven years ago)
might go for a mac mini + ipad combo
― ||||||||, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 15:39 (seven years ago)
I was hoping for news of a new iMac. Have to see if the mini is a suitable alternative

i need a new macbook and/or mini but these prices are hard to justify

Can the new MacBook Air run a big 4K monitor in clamshell mode?
― droit au butt (Euler), Wednesday, 31 October 2018 10:59 (seven years ago)
june 2017 ipad pro would almost be tempting if they'd bumped the price down. new ipad pro is 760 funbucks and the cheapest apple cover is 85 and that's only for the 8GB model
― ||||||||, Wednesday, 31 October 2018 21:30 (seven years ago)
new air is 20% too expensive
too diffuse a range of products makes it too frustrating to min-max plus post-brexit weakness of the pound has pushed prices uncomfortably high. there's just no sweet spot, as far as I can see in the range
― ||||||||, Wednesday, 31 October 2018 21:31 (seven years ago)
if the new pro started at 128GB for the 760Β£ model and the smart cover 45/55Β£ worked then it might have been the_one
― ||||||||, Wednesday, 31 October 2018 21:32 (seven years ago)

1. inflate price of all products2. hide device sales
― calamity gammon (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 2 November 2018 12:16 (seven years ago)
what does "inflate price of products" mean?

Sell hardware at higher profit margins
― DJI, Friday, 2 November 2018 16:03 (seven years ago)
I'm kind of surprised there isn't, like, an SEC or GAAP requirement for a business that sells a consumer product to state how many units of that product it sells.
― Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Friday, 2 November 2018 16:22 (seven years ago)
is there any evidence that apple are selling products at higher profit margins?
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Friday, 2 November 2018 16:40 (seven years ago)
Apple stock down 7%, good job Tim!

ugh
basically i want to read comics on it, i don't want it for anything else, and i don't want to buy physical books/comics
― F# A# (β), Friday, 2 November 2018 17:53 (seven years ago)
support physical mediaaaaaaaaa
― Nhex, Friday, 2 November 2018 18:09 (seven years ago)
ipad pro seems pretty big for anything except actual work IMO
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Friday, 2 November 2018 18:32 (seven years ago)
FWIW, my main book and comic reader is a iPad Mini 3. If I had to get something now, I'd probably get that $329 9" iPad. You don't have to spend iPad Pro money on it.
Physical media won't let me back it up in multiple locations and will be a big problem when climate-change enhanced fires burn all of California down. Portability and redundancy forever!
