You were saying Kavanaugh will be forever stained because of the allegations of sexual abuse against him. He will not, trust me. xp

Concentrate on November, people.

You like queer? I like queer. Still like queer. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 9 October 2018 18:31 (seven years ago)

We're in a pretty crazy moment of accelerationism. I thought for sure I was gonna go as Toad for Halloween but no one's gonna get the reference because it felt like it was 20 years ago by now. At this point it's worthless to speculate on what Kavanaugh is gonna do for midterm results because there's still a month to go. Isn't Mueller's report due any day now?

frogbs, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 18:32 (seven years ago)

I thought it had been suggested that the date given for sentencing of Flynn would be one of the last things in the investigation and since that has already been inked in it might mean the case would be complete by that date. It's mid December isn't it?

Stevolende, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 18:41 (seven years ago)

Has anyone suggested that he just be referred to as "Rapist judge Kavanaugh" forever? Surely this is doable?

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Tuesday, 9 October 2018 18:51 (seven years ago)

I think you should all best remember that rumors that Mueller's wrapping up his investigation best suit people for whom it would be really helpful if in fact he did so.

petey v, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 19:05 (seven years ago)

at this point I would maybe prefer Mueller's report didn't come out until after the midterms. I mean, if you thought Kavanaugh amped up the right-wing persecution machine...

Knowing the kind of film nerd Linklater is, the "Ted" thing probably is a tribute to the actor's "Brad" here..

I'm all of arguments with people on my FB feed who attack Dems for attacking the Green Party for throwing the election to Donald Trump. Someone give me a couple lines.

You like queer? I like queer. Still like queer. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:06 (seven years ago)

Green Party nominated a moron (Jill Stein) that the Russians used like a stooge - and look what it got us

very original

We made it one week without re-litigating 2016.

You have to vote for a lizard or the wrong lizard might get in.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:16 (seven years ago)

supporting the green party mostly makes sense if you believe the results of elections have no meaningful consequences and we're living through a pretty good example of that not being true

iatee, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:16 (seven years ago)

people who hated HRC enough to vote for Jill Stein were never gonna vote for Clinton even if libbots got their wish and all minor-party candidates were banned from the ballot

hell, can you prove Trump didn't vote for Stein

good act if you are, btw

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:21 (seven years ago)

the argument is always that those weren't Clinton (or Gore, or whoever)'s votes to lose. It neatly elides the fact that Stein voters a) assumed the outcome of the election did not actually matter (hence the vote for a candidate they knew had no chance of winning) and b) never seriously considered whether their interests aligned more with Clinton's than with Trump's (usually because they are viewed as "interchangeable" or some such other demonstrably untrue nonsense)

It's a hard lesson to learn, but voting is not an expression of one's personal ethics. It has always been, and will always be, a strategic expression of public will to advance specific interests.

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:22 (seven years ago)

but yeah I'm p tired of re-re-re-re-relitigating this argument

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:22 (seven years ago)

I resisted this conclusion myself for a long time, but at the federal level, the US is a two-party system. As disappointing/evil as the Dems are, pretending otherwise is pointless and then it's pretty hard to argue with Shakey's b) there

rob, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:23 (seven years ago)

My prez vote, like Susan Sarandon's, will be utterly meaningless again in 2020. i think there's at least a 40% chance I will vote for the Dem candidate.

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:27 (seven years ago)

you could move to Iowa!

crüt, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:28 (seven years ago)

morbs which potential 2020 Dem candidates would you definitely not vote for under any circumstances

crüt, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:30 (seven years ago)

stein voters - the group of dedicated nihilists and/or people who don't understand math - probably mattered less than stein adding fuel to the 'it doesn't matter, of course clinton will win' narrative. and it's not like she was the only thing fueling that.

also as much as I like to rag on the green party, if we are to assume there's always gonna be some small 3rd party drag on the election, stein probably 'helped' in that she was a fairly terrible candidate and even bernie bros never got stein-hyped.

iatee, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:31 (seven years ago)

voting is good again baby

ciderpress, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:31 (seven years ago)

crüt, we can start with Biden and Bloomberg

(both of whom i think wd handily win NY over Trump,; also they won't be nominated)

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:33 (seven years ago)

I thought Bloomberg was an "independent"?

ugh such a fucking clown

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:36 (seven years ago)

why can't someone beat it into his thick skull that he would never win a single vote outside of NY

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 20:36 (seven years ago)
