ah yes, the leaker is the real enemy here

Number None, Friday, 5 October 2018 19:48 (seven years ago)

imo the strategy behind this grandstanding is not just Collins's, it's the party's. by having a woman put the seal of approval on the confirmation, they hope to 'soften' the collateral damage among women voters.

yeah this is a pretty compelling argument

iatee, Friday, 5 October 2018 19:48 (seven years ago)

Now it’s the internet’s fault

"i pledge to do all that i can to ensure that their daughters and granddaughters never share their experiences."

"but if they do wind up having those experiences, oh well. the past is the past, no need to punish the people who did it to them."

I can only hope that the contempt expressed toward the American public as symbolized by votes to confirm Kavanaugh are met with responses which are proportionately contemptuous. May the American public get real creative with the range of available options for expressing their own contempt.

Werther Down the Spiral (Old Lunch), Friday, 5 October 2018 19:51 (seven years ago)

I made the mistake of going to the NRO Twitter feed and it's Earth-3 over there: praising her compassion, her hammer, her logic.

imo the strategy behind this grandstanding is not just Collins's, it's the party's.

This makes sense. It certainly didn't sound like a very agonized or uncertain decision on her part.

JOE MANCHIN SAYS HE'S A YES on Kavanaugh.

btw I'm sure McConnell knew that Murkowski, because of her predicament in Alabama and because she loathes him, was a no and had planned for it.

No one cares if society is doomed because they'll be saved by motherfucking god.

Yerac, Friday, 5 October 2018 20:23 (seven years ago)

Anyway, if Democrats want to prove Susan Collins is vulnerable in Maine--the Governor, the State Senate, and one of the two House members are all Republican, and all of those offices are up for election in a month.

Menendez is officially going the "vote for the crook - it's important" route. Just saw a TV ad that said "Bob Hugin said he would vote for every one of Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominees" and ended with "I'm Bob Menendez and I approved this message because it's never mattered more."

grawlix (unperson), Friday, 5 October 2018 20:42 (seven years ago)

that's the only reason im voting for him tbh

Are there any weekend protests - like a general, nationwide thing - planned?

Groove(box) Denied (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 5 October 2018 21:16 (seven years ago)

Karl Malone, Friday, 5 October 2018 21:17 (seven years ago)

Is red dawn still a film shown to the youth as something one should live by.

Morality once meant something. & not about lowest price one could go for.

I mean the shite that goes on in the US does have a lot of repercussion worldwide so i would watch what is sanctioned, innit.

Stevolende, Friday, 5 October 2018 23:32 (seven years ago)

don't you have a brexit thread to post in? why do you keep inflicting your idle musings on us?

sleeve, Friday, 5 October 2018 23:57 (seven years ago)

I’m really warming up to Stevolende’s posting style. We should all start from the least cynical position we can stand and then, socratically, end up staring doom in the face.

El Tomboto, Saturday, 6 October 2018 00:18 (seven years ago)

also devote a line break to each of our thoughts
i guess i could talk about how much i hate republicans here
and then express some of my apparently infinite despair here

princess of hell (BradNelson), Saturday, 6 October 2018 00:20 (seven years ago)

I wasn’t being sarcastic!

El Tomboto, Saturday, 6 October 2018 00:24 (seven years ago)

1992 was a good year for women elected to the Senate (partly because of Anita Hill I think) - Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Patty Murray, Carol Moseley-Braun. We need to elect a lot more. The Senate should be at least 50% women
