I need to mix up my opening repertoire. I play Italian or Queens Gambit with white. Then just copy what white does for black (eg. 1. e4 2. e5 1. d4 2. d5) I always lose really badly when I try Sicilian.

this match was notable for pathological avoidance of risk. we just need players who don't mind losing so much

feel they didnt play totally conservatively, like caruana played a gambit one game carlsen played the sicilian every time, imo it was more a combo of playing pretty conservatively being insanely prepared and just being too good? like in the computer analysis at the end of the game itd be all 1 inaccuracy 0 mistakes 0 blunders 6 centipawn loss every time except some games there were zero inaccuracies

there were a bunch of times in a post game breakdown where the commentator wld be all caruana must find the absolutely best move here and then he just wld, idk these guys are machines

tho carlsen has prob lost half a step

that is also fair. to avoid risk against players this strong you have to be so good

I'm liking the Smith-Morra Gambit opening for white at the moment. It gets you some quick attacking opportunities and you can beat weaker opponents pretty quickly imo.

Playing everyday, one game going all the time. Slowly getting better

i was getting bored playing the roy lopez so often so i started playing the london system and they've generally turned into really exciting games w/ lots of possible sacrifices and sharp positions - i highly recommend if you're looking for something new as white
