friendly fire is very helpful. i'm sure that if ideologically-sympathetic non-"conservatives" tell each other off enough the GOP will lose this time

reggie (qualmsley), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 17:41 (seven years ago)

Question for those who might know better than me: Here in NJ I'm seeing lots of TV ads about what a piece of shit Bob Menendez is (which he kinda is), and lots of ads about what a swell guy Bob Hugin is (he's not, he's a rich pharma scumbag), but no pro-Menendez ads at all. Either he thinks he's got it in the bag, polls be damned, or he's already surrendered. Does anybody know which it is?

grawlix (unperson), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 17:44 (seven years ago)

Bush Jr was the proper level of patronizing dismissiveness without sounding like nails on a chalkboard IMO

louise ck (milo z), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 17:45 (seven years ago)

This FiveThirtyEight piece says things look bad for Menendez, but it's the only thing I've really read about the race.

grawlix (unperson), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 17:46 (seven years ago)

I thought Ford’s testimony might stick because she went to a superior private school to BK, obviously posh etc so Graham can GTF with the trailer park shit.

suzy, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 17:48 (seven years ago)

It’s disgusting to imply, as graham did, that people with less money and education are more likely to lie

Trϵϵship, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 17:58 (seven years ago)

Fuck that trailer park comment. Fuck people who make similar comments about ghettoes and projects, like the countrywide (i think) lenders who called their subprime borrowers “mud people”

Trϵϵship, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 17:58 (seven years ago)

this was the last thing I'd read about Menendez: https://www.politico.com/states/new-jersey/story/2018/09/16/bob-menendezs-political-fight-for-survival-609491

If the Democrats were running literally anyone else they would have this in the bag, kinda wish Menendez had resigned or been convicted so that the seat was open.

This country sucks. The rich benefit enormously from a predatory economic system and then turn around and spit on the people they stepped over. Graham’s comment was not just offensive to Blasey Ford—who after all is upper class—but to everyone

Trϵϵship, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 18:00 (seven years ago)

welcome to the world treeship

"This country sucks. The rich benefit enormously from a predatory economic system and then turn around and spit on the people they stepped over. Graham’s comment was not just offensive to Blasey Ford—who after all is upper class—but to everyone"

The only reason that open rebellion has nto occurred si the middle class is too content with NFL beer and cookies - but if things get worse you will see more political upsets - more Bernie "new deal" types

Menendez +11 in a poll just released today, his average advantage is +6.8 points in recent polls per fivethirtyeight.com

Bnad, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 18:26 (seven years ago)

why has this shit been rebranded as a "presidential alert"? they have had these FEMA alerts before. Ego?

akm, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 18:30 (seven years ago)

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 18:52 (seven years ago)

Guys, he meant to press the Diet Coke button, and pressed the presidential alert button instead.

psychocandy fairweather low spark of high (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 18:53 (seven years ago)

Menendez held back the ads after he saw Shakey's post this summer that he can't lose.

Re dumb Trump nicknames: one that I'm surprised doesn't turn up more often (ever?) is Tramp, as this is the actual back-transcription of the Russian spelling of his name, До́нальд Джон Трамп.

god damn that's depressing

sleeve, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 20:23 (seven years ago)

at this point it's about what I would expect. Youth turnout is always low.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 20:26 (seven years ago)

We need to combine voting with fortnite somehow

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 20:34 (seven years ago)

Q. why is it always treated like a surprise that most people under 30 don’t care about voting

A. because people who pay attention to likely voter polling data are nerds who totally voted as soon as they turned 18

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 20:34 (seven years ago)

jeez what are we gonna do to turn out all those people under 30 that love having landlines & answering cell calls from strange numbers

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 20:35 (seven years ago)

sleeve, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 20:36 (seven years ago)

how can we get the young people to pokemon go to the polls

frogbs, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 20:37 (seven years ago)

i didn't post that to surprise anyone

i just like to have specific numbers at hand when i make fun of young people for not voting

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 20:48 (seven years ago)

need a voting app

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 20:49 (seven years ago)

we need nicknames for those apathetic young voters

You like queer? I like queer. Still like queer. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 20:49 (seven years ago)

i call the young people whippersnappers

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 20:52 (seven years ago)

I'm curious how many of you live in states/districts where your vote can matter this election?
Since I vote absentee in OR, all I get to do is reelect a popular Dem representative, and I'm bummed I can't express my rage more voluminously.

rob, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 21:09 (seven years ago)

Im still registered in new jersey so i guess i have to vote for menendez

Trϵϵship, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 21:18 (seven years ago)

in case you ever wanted to read the 1983 georgetown prep yearbook: https://archive.org/details/cupola-1983/page/n0

mookieproof, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 21:18 (seven years ago)

I get to vote against Paul Gosar and for Sinema, pretty stoked

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 21:22 (seven years ago)

just lmao that they're burying this Kavanaugh FBI report even though they rushed through it in like 3 days and didn't even interview any of the victims

frogbs, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 21:31 (seven years ago)

just hope someone leaks the write up on this farce at some point

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 21:36 (seven years ago)

Did it end early? Heard it was being talked about not going on beyond today, would think they might try to make it look like something was done. Revolting

Stevolende, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 21:38 (seven years ago)

Don't want to bury the lede, though, which is that North Dakota looks like a really difficult slog for Heitkamp and that makes the Dems' senate math very hard.

— Nate Silver (@NateSilver538) October 3, 2018

bad news on multiple levels (i assume that heitkamp will be more motivated to vote to confirm kavanaugh the more that she falls behind)

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 22:22 (seven years ago)

Where were the damn priests when that yearbook was put together? What status-conscious parent thought this was a fine idea?

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 22:25 (seven years ago)

I'd rather HH vote down Kavanaugh now than win re-election I think

I have measured out my life in coffee shop loyalty cards (silby), Wednesday, 3 October 2018 22:30 (seven years ago)

agreed

sleeve, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 22:32 (seven years ago)

if we pick up Arizona or Tennessee or *fingers crossed* Texas and lose ND I won't really give a fuck

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 22:33 (seven years ago)

and yeah I would rather have Kavanaugh off the court than a Dem Senate at this point

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 3 October 2018 22:33 (seven years ago)
