Did anyone watch Grand Designs last night?

Can anyone confirm that the new Grand Designs isn't just highly wealthy people phoning their friends to organise finance?

I once saw a George Clarke programme where a couple lived next door to and above three parking spaces. Clarke made suggestions about the use of space and added some black cladding and ... it was probably the best TV house/design programme I've seen.

point of that prog is that it isnae george clarke making suggestions isn't it?

yes that series was the one i was referring to but the friend had been working on (a friend of conrad's as well, i think) but her point was that the stylists for the reveal do it for all of these kinds of series' inc. grand designs.

x-post: yes, that was the one. I'd forgotten that it was someone else making the suggestion.

Well tonight’s episode was quite something, arrogance, folly and hubris in spades but still felt sorry for him at the end.

Dan Worsley, Wednesday, 9 October 2019 22:26 (six years ago)

j/k

i didn't see it (well i saw the credits as i put it on for the circle a bit early) but sounds like a good episode, might check out

imago, Wednesday, 9 October 2019 22:27 (six years ago)

wasn't particularly a good episode, wasn't even a good disaster, was just pretty much what Dan said in the revive.

the Grandest Design episode they did to celebrate the anniversary was interesting, a revisit of the best 5 or so from over the years. the winner was the irish guy with two shipping containers stacked on top of each other (which i remember as being interesting at the time)

new series of Australian GD started last night. they do love their Cor-ten steel.

Australian Grand Designs on again nightly. repeats of a series i didn't see at the time.

that thing where they are surveying the plot and the date pops up on screen and it's 7 years ago. and they're still talking about being in before christmas...

(two married bishops, ren fair fans, medieval timber frame building, on a slope, and he's insisting on sanding all the beams himself)

koogs, Thursday, 18 June 2020 07:31 (five years ago)

add to that a 5m stained glass window

second episode quite impressive

but this series is being hit by covid. they are digging, they are digging, [covid happens], final distanced reveal. they seem to be skipping a lot of the middle of the process.

koogs, Thursday, 21 January 2021 15:24 (five years ago)

third episode looks like they are building something very similar to the temporary theatres that went up in w12 - mansard roof, steel skeleton, sips panels.
