yeah escape room ep was not strong

this season has been me thinking they just dont have it anymore

The plane one had ambitions to do something clever, different and interesting I guess, mostly didn't come off at all though. Agreed Frank showing up in the toilet was the only real laugh.

What was interesting, clever or different about an episode that not only was little more than a meta riff on a previous episode, but whose ostensible subject of satire - women-led gross out comedies - also seemed weirdly out of date? As was the women's march, which was (incredibly) almost two years ago. Even the call back to the waiter they torment fell flat. Like anyone gives a shit about that guy.

Mac lifting Dee by the crotch was the biggest laugh of the season so far.

This episode was pretty funny/true to form. Even if the repeated gag of Frank coming back into the room on the phone was used maybe too much.

Well, to be fair ...

Last night's seemed more promising than any of the other ones this season but then I fell asleep.

it was p good. the bike stuff was entertaining, and the last scene was great.

the fight was the hardest i've laughed this season for sure

yeah that was great. When they walked away initially I was like, wait Mac is ripped why doesn't he just pound the shit out of them

only seen the premiere but really liked it, even if the show is not in top form it is comforting to see a serialized show that has went this long and still delivers some laughs

thought the time's up ep was the best of the season so far

This bike/car episode was hilarious, funny enough to be a season finale.

Luckily next week is the "Mac bares his torso in the gay pride parade" ep that is, tbh, the only one I've been anticipating this season.

I just started the new season and I didn't even recognize Dee in the second episode when she was standing next to the Escape Room person.

This season has been a rushed mess, but ... I did not see this finale coming. Not one bit.

I kinda disagree. I found the season spotty but not much more than the last season or three, and had plenty of highlights for me.

but while I thought the dance sequence was amazing, I found the rest of the episode shockingly short on jokes. Just having Frank bleeding a lot didn't really do it for me.

yeah it just wasn't funny. I kept thinking there was gonna be some joke at the end of the dance sequence that would tie it all together but... nope

the dance sequence reminded me of their dance routine at the high school reunion

Except that one did have a punchline where it turned out to be all in their head but actually terrible. This one did not. It actually reminded me a bit of the end of "Beau Travail!"

I did think the rest of the episode was terrible and even wondered if that was on purpose. A running gag of Frank sticking things up his nose to stop bleeding? Lame.

I'm basically in agreement with AV on this one. The tepid, meh-ness of the episode that led up to it, which set you up to expect another "lol they're not really killing George Michael choreography like they think they are" punchline, allowed Mac's earnest butterfly moment to soar on its own barely coherent terms.

I get why people wouldn't want that from this particular show. But, as a gay man who also has had a history of setting up self-sabotaging apparatuses to keep me from reaching self-actualization, it resonated like a tuning fork in my chest.

yeah this is not a show that has ever trafficked in earnestness or genuine emotion so it was sort of jarring to see the sequence played (for lack of a better term lol) straight

That's categorically not true. Dee wheeling down the hospital corridor with her surrogate alone.

Frankly, it's the only thing that kept me coming back after roughly season 5.

that seems like a bizarre reading of this show (and that sequence in particular as well) to me but whatever

You only get so much mileage/goodwill on the premise of "these are the worst people in the world!" in my book.

there have always been some strangely touching musical moments in the show, even if they're often undercut with jokes (unlike this one). I thought the dance scene was moving and i'm glad they played it straight.

The #metoo and prius episode the following week were awesome. I generally enjoyed the whole season even if it wasn’t laughs all the time.
