There's a new documentary out on Gilda Radner called Love, Gilda, which I saw last night. Very nice, though it never really shows a full skit with her in it (I suppose anyone can go look those up) and focuses much more on her life and what drove the decisions she made (to go into comedy, to not return to SNL, to basically retire from acting all together). Chase shows up maybe twice to say nice things; was surprised at no Jane Curtin or Bill Murrary appearances though.

one thing I learned in it that I had no idea about: she was married to GE Smith???? (and left him for Gene Wilder)

another show where they saved some of the funniest sketches for the second half. i don't know why they foisted that Fortnite thing on everyone as the first major sketch, it was awful. Driver as Pete Davidson's oil baron father, however, had me dying.

I think the less said about these kanye performances the best.

adam driver carries that entire sketch on his shoulders but he's incredible

echoes of the Prospector Will Ferrell sketch, but that's never a bad thing

exactly, that was far and away the funniest part of the show. why did they stick it way in the back half? why did they subject us to some unfunny fortnite shit at the beginning? and I swear that Domenico's coffee sketch: didn't they do that last year or the year before, almost note for note?

Paul Simon just straight up sounding like the music in the NPR segments on Parks & Rec

Apparently the guy who thinks New Orleans accents are automatically hilarious still works at SNL but his partner who wrote the funny parts of Maine Justice doesn't

that sketch was terrible. as was most of this show. above posted sketch one of the few highlights.

Pedant alert: that's a Cajun accent, not a New Orleans accent. And proving that humor is subjective, that was my favorite of the night. The sheer wtf-ness reminded me of the infamous potato chip sketch. MAGA biscuit!

Also a fan of Kenan's Treece Henderson Trio. Gucci shoes!

Overall thought this was stronger than many recent nights, although the bar has been set pretty low...

treece henderson after the "trees" song kinda confused me because they sound the same but tbf i was very tired. also i laughed at both of those a lot so

the treece sketches are funny even if the're the same fucking joke all the time. at least it's not overdone.

there's a few talented people trying very hard with terrible material but i haven't found any recent material that's been posted funny. also i think cast members being unable to keep a straight face during sketches is definitely not inherently funny, keep it together and be a pro imo.

and Leslie Jones still can't read the cue cards

Also I have this belief that Melissa Villasenor is funny but no utilized properly but I have no proof of that

and Taram Killem was the funniest one, it's a bummer he was fired two years ago, still have no clue why.

you could say this about any year with a major cast exodus. Heidi Gardner is strong, this is only her second year. not caught up with any players they hired this year.

I think the bigger problem is the writer's room, it's terrible this year which makes ppl like Kenan or McKinnon who have a lot of charisma more vital

I thought it was because he went off to direct that movie (not a lorne production iirc) that was gonna make him basically unavailable for an entire season of SNL - and he already had 6 seasons -- most ppl stop at 7 or 8 right? so it figures they'd just cut him loose.

Heidi Gardner is already great, Chris Redd has shown greatness, Ego Nwodim is the only new cast member so far this season and we basically have seen nothing of her but if she's as good on SNL as she has been on e.g. Comedy Bang Bang she'll do super well. Agreed that the writing is brutal tho. Remember when they only thing they couldn't write was an end for a sketch? At least the beginnings and middles were ok :(

I like Gardner a lot, and Redd has promise...Gardner is tending to shine on the news where you can tell she's kinda up there doing bits that she already had prior to SNL, getting around the writing problem

I guess I'm kinda coming around on Pete Davidson for some reason? Some of his news things are super awkward but they kinda work? I've thought he was pretty much useless and was just around so they had someone who could play teenage dudes in sketches

the Trump Brothers thing is pretty funny but they are overusing it

Alec Baldwin's Trump is definitely one of the worst fucking abominations in the history of comedy

but I guess I feel like we deserve it
