I don't remember hearing much about the summer months in it. So is this about the heaviest time normally or doies it actually tend to get worse as the season continues.

I mean hurricane season is listed as June to November so a nice polite squall should stick to that schedule innit.

Goes to show you that you really should not be focused on the intensity forecasts 5 days out and should focus on the trajectory and err on the side of caution.

Forecasters have admitted intensification is hard to predict many days out and some were dismissive of the storm on Sunday as it was forecast to be only a Cat 1 before coming ashore.

Not as if a Cat 1 wouldn't have also been dangerous for coastal areas...but you pretty much can't bank on a storm being weak just cos an early forecast guesses so

it was extremely odd recently to look up in the sky to the south/southeast of Los Angeles and see these massive, strange-appearing storm clouds and knowing that they were from a rare Pacific hurricane that was dissipating after coming ashore in Mexico. Los Angeles was actually grazed by a hurricane once, in 1858. i wonder if we might see another one at some point, considering everything w/climate change.

To be fair, most meteorologists don't make predictions, either. Those spaghetti models of tropical storm evolution come from a handful of meteorological institutions with circulation models running on supercomputers. Competent broadcast meteorologists can interpret them, but I imagine the number who could program these models is in the low hundreds.
