it's been pretty humid for L.A. though obviously not midwest or deep south humid. also this summer and (iirc) last were not especially hot maybe? this has been very much a summer full of 84 degree high days (with that early July weekend heat wave excepted.)

i imagine it's been a really pleasant summer for the beach communities, Santa Monica seems to be enjoying lots of 78 degree days.

There’s also a sharp physical division between the beach cities and inland where there is a spike in temperature which I don’t remember there being in the past

I have not seen the first two there, wd be most interested in Grand Prix.

fwiw How the West Was Won is the only film on the Arclight schedule that was filmed in Cinerama instead of just "presented" in Cinerama.

As a western fan I have to say I've never cared for it. Too aware of itself as a "stunt" and too thin.

Grand Prix seems like a much more exciting prospect. Glossy and slick, but at least a real movie.

Turns out the Beverly Hills walkout and legal fees to sue metro and the county were funded with revenue from a bond measure that should have paid to renovate the schools to make them healthier and safer places for the kids

our kid's teacher told me her daughter's class at the nearby high school has 46 students and not enough seats, so they count on students being absent to make sure no one's sitting on the floor. when we toured our school and went into the fifth grade class it was pretty nuts: 36 kids in a classroom the same size as the kindergarten classroom (which had 24 students.)

Also was just at Santa Anita for some races last weekend and that day two horses had to be put down due to injuries, and today another, which makes 21 in ten weeks. Wtf is going on out there?

Why do they put down the horse if it’s only a broken leg?

Hard to let heal for a horse, I would imagine ("stay off it for a few weeks..."), also, of course, the horse will never be a contender again, so of no use to the owner.
