well, last time it was because we had just abolished conscription, withdrawn from Vietnam, made university free, abolished the death penalty, released Papua New Guinea to be an independent country under the UN, brought in universal health care, instituted laws against racial discrimination, returned land rights to native people, set up arts grants and community radio licences, lowered the voting age to 18, allowed our third largest state-equivalent to elect senators, federally funded the connecting of homes to sewers, cut international tariffs, funded state schools, allowed single mothers to receive welfare for the first time, and brought in both equal pay and a minimum wage for women.
