That's what they used to say about Germany.

There’s no way Americans are worse than British Islanders

Isn't a Denmark a kind of money?

Melted Belts, Priced To Move (Old Lunch), Friday, 17 August 2018 19:33 (seven years ago)

(Internet Americans are definitely the worst nationality, I concur.)

Melted Belts, Priced To Move (Old Lunch), Friday, 17 August 2018 19:34 (seven years ago)

You’re thinking of weregeld

faculty w1fe (silby), Friday, 17 August 2018 19:34 (seven years ago)

Frætheræk - I think that's how they pronounce it in most of Scotland tbh.

Scottish Country Twerking (Tom D.), Friday, 17 August 2018 19:35 (seven years ago)

I suppose it's called Jutland because it juts out. Has to be. Frætheræk?

It's because it's the land of the 'judes' or 'juthes' or 'iuthær' as it was spelled in the middle ages.

Frederik B, Friday, 17 August 2018 19:37 (seven years ago)

I was born in Jutland as well, and, true story, I used to think 'Hey Jude' was about people like me.

Frederik B, Friday, 17 August 2018 19:38 (seven years ago)

Frederik, check your email.

mod, Friday, 17 August 2018 19:39 (seven years ago)

lol

Frederik B, Friday, 17 August 2018 19:39 (seven years ago)

Trϵϵship, Friday, 17 August 2018 19:40 (seven years ago)

Someone's done for Fred! Infamy!

Scottish Country Twerking (Tom D.), Friday, 17 August 2018 19:41 (seven years ago)

i really liked jutland when i visited fwiw. aarhus was a fun city and the countryside was pretty surreal in terms of just how many acres of snow there was in all directions

Trϵϵship, Friday, 17 August 2018 19:44 (seven years ago)

want a fræth in the morning, trϵϵsh in the evening
just like meeee

Doctor Casϵϵno (Doctor Casino), Friday, 17 August 2018 19:45 (seven years ago)

Be careful what you wish for (FPs tlg for the fifteenth time this hour).

i can think of at least one personal interaction i've had on ILX during the past week that would have played out very differently - for better or worse - if we had a cooling-off mechanism like this

the late great, Friday, 17 August 2018 19:47 (seven years ago)

That or fitting all users with some sort of genital-shocking contraption would really do wonders for this place, I feel.

Melted Belts, Priced To Move (Old Lunch), Friday, 17 August 2018 19:51 (seven years ago)

keep your weird sexual fantasies to yrself please

Οὖτις, Friday, 17 August 2018 19:52 (seven years ago)

it gets turned off if you get tok many FPs

the late great, Friday, 17 August 2018 19:53 (seven years ago)

Good to see that someone gets me.

Melted Belts, Priced To Move (Old Lunch), Friday, 17 August 2018 19:56 (seven years ago)

Someones, I should say.

Melted Belts, Priced To Move (Old Lunch), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:00 (seven years ago)

How many ppl is tlg

Trϵϵship, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:00 (seven years ago)

i contain multitudes

the late great, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:04 (seven years ago)

this thread is interesting because when I flag posts it is because I think the post itself is objectionable, contains objectionable language, etc., and then the expectation is that the individual post is deleted but the poster is not advanced up some kind of fifty-strikes-you're-out-no-questions-asked scale.

this seems very...unintuitive. especially since the flag post screen tells you are flagging the *post* for attention of the moderators

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:11 (seven years ago)

Yeah it’s a fiction unfortunately.

faculty w1fe (silby), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:12 (seven years ago)

Used to be called suggest ban before my day. That seemed a clearer term.

Trϵϵship, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:15 (seven years ago)

I’m not sure we need that much more moderation though idk. My friend moderates a massive subreddit and she is constantly rooting out hateful, hateful stuff that ilx luckily doesn’t seem to have much of.

Trϵϵship, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:17 (seven years ago)

well a) we're an increasingly shrinking and insular circle, and b) really hateful stuff will almost always get modded and banned without FP coming into play

Noodle Vague, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:25 (seven years ago)

it's true

Trϵϵship, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:26 (seven years ago)

has someone checked on fred? that "check your email" message was p ominous

was that happening a lot when i was gone? ppl get that message from a mod and then vanish without a trace from ilx/irl?

Trϵϵship, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:27 (seven years ago)

yes

flaneur brayin (darraghmac), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:30 (seven years ago)

Usually, could be a warning that he's getting close to the limit.

Scottish Country Twerking (Tom D.), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:32 (seven years ago)

darragh got emailed by the modsock and next thing we knew he’d been replaced with an exact replica

faculty w1fe (silby), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:33 (seven years ago)

the mod aint been anointed yet that can @ this

flaneur brayin (darraghmac), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:40 (seven years ago)

flag posts can't stick to the wind

Trϵϵship, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:42 (seven years ago)

in all seriousness "let someone's posts stand unhindered without warning or action until 51 people dislike them" seems like an extremely dysfunctional way to moderate... anything

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:43 (seven years ago)

how long have you been posting to ilx?!

this is not how it works

if a post is actionable you get a mod to action it

if you want the poster banned for an accumulation of offences flag the post

this has been done in about forty threads

flaneur brayin (darraghmac), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:46 (seven years ago)

like

deej hasnt done anything bannable

but very soon hes likely going to be 51'd for i dunno the fourth time

its a good system

flaneur brayin (darraghmac), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:47 (seven years ago)

again, though, this seems very counterintuitive, because the link says Flag Post and the text says "Confirming this will flag the post for the attention of the moderators," so I guess I've been using this wrong for years

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:49 (seven years ago)

if you want a Referendum on Person button then the text should probably be changed to reflect that

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:50 (seven years ago)

yeah they fucked it up when they changed the wording without changing anything else

hilariously, ppl were delighted with the wallpaper change

im as confused as you about it

flaneur brayin (darraghmac), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:51 (seven years ago)

I'm at a loss as to what Fred did to get banned this time around...?

that was weird

Οὖτις, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:51 (seven years ago)

I p much only fp for egregiously racist/anti-semitic stuff, it's not that often really

Οὖτις, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:51 (seven years ago)

pretty sure Fred isn't banned and don't see why he'd be close altho i don't really read US politics threads tbf

Noodle Vague, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:51 (seven years ago)

i don't think posters like fred or deej should ever be banned

Trϵϵship, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:52 (seven years ago)

fred hasnt been banned

egregiously racist etc stuff is grounds for banning separately to the "you cant blame mods for this but you know you were shitacting" of fp

you ppl

flaneur brayin (darraghmac), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:53 (seven years ago)

(the system also makes me hesitant because I can easily see a situation where people decide to flag someone just because they personally don't like them. it's less likely with 51 people but that's only because of the scale of this place, 51 people is nothing for, say, twitter)

aloha darkness my old friend (katherine), Friday, 17 August 2018 20:53 (seven years ago)

i take your point Treesh but let's not revive the whole "to SB or not to SB" debate here

Noodle Vague, Friday, 17 August 2018 20:54 (seven years ago)

Twitter also has this system and it's easily abused by hordes of extremely online nazis~ xp
