Why do people leave ILX for good?

FWIW the archives are full of threads started about bands/songs that gained no traction at the time and then started snowballing. I would 100% encourage people to start more threads about new stuff they're into rather than chucking it onto a rolling thread where it'll disappear within hours. Who cares if no one responds?

Threads have a negligible marginal cost is what we’re saying and why not have more of them

I mean bumping 11 year old threads with 5 posts to discuss something on your mind is a hilarious and important part of ilx culture but still threads are free

i love necrothreading because half the time the start of the thread will give the lie to any notion of "back when ilx was good" and the other half of the time somebody will mention some amazing record from the '90s the world has forgotten about and i find a great new album to listen to.

I'm still disappointed that I somehow just missed the ILM wall-to-wall challops days. Those look like they were wild times.

personally solipsistic wankery is why i'm on message boards

i generally only make song/album/artist threads when their momentum seems to have escalated beyond devoted genre threads or which would seem to appeal to more than the narrow band of ppl who keep up with a rolling thread (see: new foxing record), so far this has worked out fine

oh and especially if the artist/album doesn't settle easily into a genre thread
