this is a weirdly common thread among a lot of younger trump era leftists. the cultural critique that runs from max weber's "protestant ethic" to christopher lasch seems as much a part of it (perhaps unconsciously) as anything from the marxist tradition.

you have to remember that for people in their mid 30s, a lot of our peers that were churchgoing in their youth and broke away associate the whole enterprise with the heel-dragging on progressive social issues, or in more conservative communities, entrenched bigotry

I find it funny how unobjectionable the Vice interview was. Like, almost anyone on Rolling Politics would have given similar answers (except maybe on the Mueller stuff). They've gone soft already!
