it does keep the liberals v leftists tit for tat shite out of other threads to an extent i suppose

OzyFest is deeply deserving of clowning no matter who is president.

i'll give the episode a listen (i've been more or less enjoying the show lately) but that RS article is embarrassing. i mean, Of Course ozyfest was a godawful idea carried out largely by godawful people (though it would have been nice to see one of these pieces really engage with the fact that some folks who are actually at least somewhat Good like Gillibrand and Cynthia Nixon were there too), so i'm not really sure what was the point of making a huge show of how you totally were trippin balls when you showed up to clown everybody there.

Why would you listen to a podcast that has Cocaine Intelligence Unit patch for a logo and complain about them talking about drugs?

because i find it entertaining when they talk about politics and find it incredibly tiresome when they talk about their drug consumption
it's pretty simple
― a Stupendous Leg of Granite (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 24 July 2018 12:57 (seven years ago)
Eh this and some mention of purchasing edibles while on the west coast are really the only times I’ve heard them describe their drug consumption in any kind of detail (not a patron subscriber bye so maybe there’s lots more there?)I mean it could be worse. They could be beer nerds who won’t shut up about esoteric micros.

the drug refs have been few and far between but I agree with bg that the LSD and coke stuff is played out as hell

if you're hunter s thompson and it's anywhere between 1965 and 1975, for sure go ahead and mash together hard-nosed politics-beat reporting and colossal drug consumption, it'll be uniquely enlightening
if you're not, don't
is basically how i break it down to an extent

For folks interested in the YPG, big new piece in RS suggests they played a role crucial role in pushing back ISIS in Syria than previously reported

nice!
I think it's tiring but the drug jokes seem like second-generation mocking of the HST tendencies. I guess it's no more or less meta and navel-gazing than anything else my generation does but "I'm going to get messed up and go to an event like Hunter Thompson, isn't that dumb? *winks at camera*" is kind of played out

i might have taken a less jaundiced view of it were it not for the fact that 1) ozyfest is such a mindbendingly surreal event in its own right it kinda didn't need any chemical assistance and 2) matt and will tripping added nothing at all to their retelling - they might as well have taken a handful of cod liver oil instead for all the difference it made
― a Stupendous Leg of Granite (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 24 July 2018 15:05 (seven years ago)
spoiler alert: he was tripping on cod liver oil
― mh, Tuesday, 24 July 2018 15:50 (seven years ago)

2) matt and will tripping added nothing at all to their retelling - they might as well have taken a handful of cod liver oil instead for all the difference it made
this is a great point, i mean taking LSD at a huge festival in central park is inconceivable to me, truly horrifying, you'd think if they're gonna do HST cosplay they'd at least incorporate it more into their reporting. it sounds like they microdosed, it added nothing other than "lol... theyre high"

By this characterization no parent who has ever fought school integration is actually racist or classist. They always come up with rhetoric that gives them plausible deniability.
― Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Friday, 27 July 2018 17:18 (seven years ago)
I agree that it's unfair to lump in Bee/Oliver/Stewart. I have a better impression of Bee and Stewart than I do of Oliver fwiw.

I mean Snopes is really going beyond its mandate with that one. Anyone with an inkling about the way NYC schools are zoned and its racial and economic history can see that class and race were the biggest factors in the opposition the the city's plan.
― Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Friday, 27 July 2018 17:42 (seven years ago)
it's odd that Snopes is mostly addressing a 2017 revival of that story.
