Anyone sleeping more in the heat? Slept like 13 hours last night

Ross, Monday, 9 July 2018 07:21 (seven years ago)

No, it goes like this:

Sleep 12am-3 or 4am, up for 90 minutes then either:

Fall back asleep until around 7.30/8am OR
fail to fall asleep, grumble, get up and do some freelance work, then nap for around 90 minutes at some point in the afternoon when the property programmes are on.

suzy, Monday, 9 July 2018 09:22 (seven years ago)

we totally wimped out and got ac, screw making it through the whole summer without

Arch Bacon (rushomancy), Tuesday, 10 July 2018 00:57 (seven years ago)

Why would anyone even attempt to torture themselves that way??

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 10 July 2018 14:12 (seven years ago)

it's been in the mid-80s in London for the last 2 weeks or so and i haven't wanted the AC. it helps that it's not very humid i guess.

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 July 2018 14:14 (seven years ago)

today's plunge into a more ordinary UK summer 20 degrees c is quite a relief tbh. Been loving the summer, but it's nice to able to cook a curry without feeling like your in the engine room of a steam ship.

calzino, Tuesday, 10 July 2018 14:52 (seven years ago)

Would never eat or make curry on a warm day

That is torture

Warm days call for salads or lighter fare in the infinitiverse

for some reason the heat has been making me crave spice, I think my body wants to enter full sauna mode

ogmor, Tuesday, 10 July 2018 15:07 (seven years ago)

1. Spices have antimicrobial and anti parasitic properties, and help protect people from meat and other protein that spoil rather quickly in a hot climate. They also help to mask off flavors of meat about to go bad. From an evolutionary perspective, the people who prepared spicy dishes had a higher chance of survival, and instructed their offspring to use spices as well.

2. Spicy food causes people to sweat, which is the body’s way to cool off. More precisely, the spices trigger an increase in the metabolism, which raises the body’s temperature a little bit. This induces sweating as a mechanism for cooling off.

3. Hot weather acts as a natural appetite suppressant; spicy food acts as an appetite stimulant.

calzino, Tuesday, 10 July 2018 15:13 (seven years ago)

Capsaicin(https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-2XWDkPfB2OUFNfTlpKT1U5QXc?usp=sharing), the pungent compound from hot peppers that mimics heat, is a vasodilator. Like alcohol, this warms skin temperature in cold, but it also helps to dissipate excess. Also, may modestly extend lifespan.

God damn hot. Glad I shaved my head and beard, rocking just a moustache. Crows are going crazy today

I've been hiking in 30+ (90ish) heat for a few days and I am not looking fwd to returning to my chilly, dank island home

ogmor, Tuesday, 4 September 2018 14:10 (seven years ago)

It's brutal marcos. I found an Asian Tiger Mosquito in my GF's backyard in Lakewood.

boy, now why didn't I think of that.

pplains, Tuesday, 4 September 2018 15:22 (seven years ago)

I was born in this state. It's real pretty compared to some of its neighbors. But man. I do get tired of going out on the porch and just smelling the damn fertile nature all around me.

A few weeks ago, I was standing on a sandbar on the White River, dragonflies skittering around my ankles. I could only think, what's with this shit.

And then we all went home with sunburns.

pplains, Tuesday, 4 September 2018 15:25 (seven years ago)

"damn fertile nature"

otm, this is the smell I hated the most living in the USA midwest. yes there was a lot of corn & soy, yay usa productivity, but also so many weeds, anywhere there was a spot, life finding its disgusting way

droit au butt (Euler), Tuesday, 4 September 2018 15:46 (seven years ago)

oh i love that smell. breathing that in and listening to all the crickets, cicadas, insects everywhere. thing is though that you can get that wonderful smell even when it's humid and mid-70s. doesn't have to be this nonsense.

btw despite living here i have a special love and appreciation for euler's well-documented hatred of the american midwest

marcos, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 13:26 (seven years ago)

the humidity lingers on - and kids are in school - i always hated the HOT CLASSROOM

Rabbit Control (Latham Green), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 13:27 (seven years ago)

haha much love marcos

I am in Belgium today, the midwest of France, and it is 74F with 75% humidity & it feels filthy, ugh, please die summer

droit au butt (Euler), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 13:31 (seven years ago)

humidity above 70 is considered shitty by meteorlogosts

I imagine yoru waffles are soggy

Rabbit Control (Latham Green), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 13:39 (seven years ago)

74F with 75% humidity & it feels filthy

Awww that's cute. Signed, NYC, 90 deg and 99% humidity

My sentiments about summer are the same at this point.

O hai look. 400 miles away from the nearest ocean and yet, a hurricane is still somehow on its way.

Ive been here pretty much since the beginning of summer and not flying much and it’s scary how like it’s been uncomfortably hot maybe 2-3 weeks, and not consecutively and not even that hot (30C max?)

F# A# (∞), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 15:18 (seven years ago)

Take it to the MTA meltdown thread buddy xp

Temperature has been increasing at an insane rate the last 2 hours or so (was pretty cool this morning). Not a great day to work from home in an un-air-conditionned house. Currently 31C and extremely humid.

silverfish, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 18:29 (seven years ago)

Oh i work in a huge air conditioned building so that’s probably why I don’t feel it’s too hot here

I just had lunch outside in the shade and it was perfect weather
