Spurs players are killing it in this World Cup and Belgium have two in their back four.

Right I'm bored of Belgium now, come on France!

Happy to declare Martinez a genius although a very lucky one.

Martinez just took the opportunity to defend literally every tactical decision he's ever made but if you can't show that kind of bollocks at that moment then when can you.
― Matt DC, Friday, 6 July 2018 20:03 (five years ago) link
he did a great job of making brazil bottle it in front of goal instead of scoring 5 like they would've on a normal day

that fucking stat about how south american teams never win the wc in europe is pertinent again

if only chile hadn't had a tournament every since and including the last world cup we might have qualified and had a chance this time around ;_;

A. Not really.

the saddest is when i'm reading all this knowing little about soccer and unaware of the scores, just trying to figger out what has happened and guessing whose commentary i read. like twice i'm just 'pshhhh you couldn't be more dmac...yup!"

I know darragh was just trolling a few posts back there but coutinho was their best player and firmino not starting ahead of jesus like everr sealed their fate. Plus they didn't even pick our midfield colossus fabinho

Having said that I'm not sure I'm up for listening to any more of Shearer et al pissing their pants over the strong, masterful manliness of Vincent Kompany.

Get a room, why don't you?
If lukaku was 5'8" and 11 stone he'd be a very average player

Despite being a foreigner, they see him as displaying the uniquely English qualities of Leader of Men/Captain Courageous types like Terry Butcher and John Terry - though with better English skills.
― Alan Alba (Tom D.), Saturday, 7 July 2018 07:10 (five years ago) link
I think it's his heid

Yaya Toure as well. It's an honour that's handed out to only very select foreigners (Vieira got it, definitely). It probably helped that the only English footballers in that era's City team were people like Joleon Lescott and Micah Richards who were never going to draw those accolades.
The current England, significantly, don't have a player like that - Henderson's too nothingy, Stones is too fancy and flaky. Harry Kane is the closest they have but he's more of a Roy of the Rovers type, the kind of guy whose face you'd see on England biscuit tins.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 7 July 2018 09:59 (five years ago) link
this is wrong. And kind of offensive

Struggling to keep track of who actually watches football and who's a day tripper chancing it with these kinds of remarks. European leagues are stuffed to the rafters with big lumps who can't actually play and could never in a million years do what Lukaku did yesterday.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 7 July 2018 10:42 (five years ago) link
Maguire might end up in Captain Courageous territory but his ability to control the ball with his feet and advance more than a yard with it might rule him out in the end
